Tapo Skill issue in Alexa Routine (not activating person detection based triggers)

This is not a workaround, unless people don't mind a random alexa enabled speaker announcing in their home. I have many Alexa enabled speakers. I made sure that none of them are selected for this setup and when this triggers, a RANDOM speaker announces that the "camera has detected a person".

thanks for the heads up on a possible future fix my friend. I'm going to continue using ittt triggers until Alexa provides the 100% solution via an update,

Can you post here when that happens? Otherwise I won't know when to get rid of the ittt triggers and go back to the Tapo/alexa driven triggers.

thanks in ad

Hi,

I completely understand your situation. Therefore, the most effective step forward would be to report this issue directly to Amazon Alexa support. When more users provide the same feedback, it significantly increases the priority for their engineering team to investigate and implement a fix.

We’ll also note your feedback on our end, but for a timely resolution, contacting Alexa support is your best course of action.

Best Regards,

I've already done this. In fact, I believe I was one of only a couple of users actively working with Amazon to investigate the issue. In fact, I believe I even mentioned it someplace earlier in the this thread. I would think TP-Link/Tapo has a vested interest in getting Amazon to resolve this properly and in a timely manner, especially since integration with Alexa is a major selling point for many customers. It's certainly one of the reasons I purchased into the Tapo ecosystem.

I bought the Tapo Cameras in November and Amazon "broke" the integration in January. I've been emailing Tapo and after a few weeks your engineers were like, "oh well, works on our side, Amazon's the problem, nothing we can do". So off I go to deal with Amazon, the Amazon representative I worked with spent more than an hour troubleshooting before arriving at this very so-called "workaround" which actually, I was the one who told her about. I specifically informed her that it is not a valid workaround because even when all speakers are unchecked, announcements still randomly play on one of them. Knowing that, it's disappointing that this was still passed back to TP-Link/Tapo as an acceptable solution. At best, it's an incomplete fix. At worst, it's being presented as a resolution when the issue clearly remains.

At this point, I honestly wish I could just return all of the Tapo equipment I purchased in November. I expected TP-Link to be actively pushing Amazon to address a problem that appears to have originated on their side. Instead, it feels like the burden is being wholly shifted onto customers to accept a either accept a flawed workaround or contact Amazon themselves.

That's not a good look for either company, but especially not for a brand that relies heavily on seamless smart home integrations.

I'm about ready to jump ship completely from both Amazon AND Tapo; just find something else that doesn't depend on Amazon at all. I think I've been patient enough. It's been 6 months.

TPLink/Tapo seems ready to just throw their hands up and leave it to Amazon (and us, as customers, to call Amazon about it).

Amazon, I don't know what they're doing. I think they're more interested in keeping Blink and Ring working vs. being "open" like they used to. Thankfully, certain other integrations are still working, like, contact and some motion sensors and bulbs and switches, but I never thought I'd have these sort of issues with these big companies. I'll probably sink into Smartthings or Smartlife and just strikeout out my Amazon integration(s) slowly. Maybe Amazon will take pity on me and take back these Tapo Cameras I now have no use for.

Hi,

We fully understand and take seriously the key issue you’ve raised. The situation you reported—where voice announcements still play randomly even after unchecking all speaker devices—requires a thorough investigation by the Alexa team to resolve.

We have been proactively maintaining close communication with the Alexa team, continuously providing feedback on the specific issues users are facing, and urging them to expedite the investigation and repair process.

Currently, since the issue originates from the Alexa system integration side, the final resolution must be led and implemented by their team. But we will continue to provide them with feedback, though we are unable to directly intervene in their repair schedule at this time.

Best Regards,
