Never again
I have a door lock that failed. TP-link apparently REQUIRES you to use paypal to pay for shipping a defective warranty replacement. I will NEVER buy a TP-Link device again. I am beyond angry at this stupid policy. First, a defective warranty product should not cost me anything for replacement. Second, to have to use a payment platform that I don't trust to pay this ridiculous fee is beyond the pale.

Hi MK. I can understand your concern. PayPal is our sole payment processor for RMAs and has been since 2017. The reason is that TP-Link does not store payment information directly for customers, so we needed a secure and trusted payment partner that does. PayPal filled the role.
PayPal is also only needed if you are using our Advanced RMA options. Using the standard option, PayPal is not used because you send the defective product back first. Something that, with a door lock, isn't usually an option unless you have the original lock and reinstall it temporarily.
In some cases, PayPal will allow a "Guest" checkout where you don't have to create an account, but that is dependent on factors determined by PayPal. Regretably, TP-Link does not have any other payment processors, so if an Advanced RMA is required, they would be the only way to process that RMA. This is because, along with the RMA fee, there is a pre-authorized hold that is made at the time of payment. This is used as collateral to ensure the defective product is returned to TP-Link. Without it we cannot send a replacement before the defective unit is received.
