I am having trouble getting it to work. I wire it up and when I turn the power on it flashes the light connected to the switch and the switch flashes amber color while clicking. I don't have a ground in the box. Is that the rear is there something else going on? Thank you

Based on the current information, it's hard to determine the cause. Which Tapo smart switch do you have? 

 

When installing any smart switch, getting the wiring right is the most important first step. For your case:

1. Please re-check your wiring. *Download manuals or find setup video in TP-Link Download Center.

2. Try to install the switch in another location, test whether the same issue still occurs.

 

 

By the way, how long has this switch been in use? And when did this problem first start? If this is an old device, it’s possible the unit itself may need replacing.
