Hi,

This is my first time with TP Link devices. I had an electrician install two S505D dimmer switches and I'm unable to connect either of them to the Tapo app nor Google Home. I tried using two different phones and still no lucky.

The Tapo app doesnt find the device then it tells me to connect to the devices wifi, but the wifi doesnt show up.

The Google Home app finds it using matter after I scan the QR code but then after connecting it shows the lights as offline. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

New here, so please bear with me. I didn't read any articles here, just noticed unable to connect. This seems to be the only way to complain. I recently went to another country my tapo switches (S505d)of mine, ob by the way I am a current licensed master electrician qualified in solar, electrical, electronics, and software. The tapo app all went offline as soon as I was in another country! My other apps on my phone were all working fine. I tried relocating, VPN, gps... I could think of... probably missing something. But blah.. e when it offline I was unable to connect I had nobody at my home to reset the router I was unable to connect to any of my table devices I was able to connect to all my other device my table went out all my other devices were communicate communicating fine thank you. Back home now and back online! Blah! No thank you!

Tapo S500D is set up through Bluetooth, not WiFi. Please double-check if you've selected the correct model during the configuration. Check this article for more suggestions for configuration failure issues: What should I do if I fail to configure the Tapo devices

Once the device has been set up successfully in the Tapo app, update its firmware first. How to Update Tapo and Kasa Device Firmware via the Tapo App

Then, you can try to link it to Google Home again. Either through Tapo integration or Matter.

Could you specify: Are you referring to the Switch appearing offline, or are you unable to open the app — such as being stuck on a certain screen or experiencing app crashes?

Normally, Tapo smart devices can be controlled remotely as long as they're connected to the internet. Was your situation that the router lost connection? If that's the case, it will affect all devices on the network, not just Tapo smart devices.
