Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.4

The brightness setting is largely useless because it does not control the physical exposure of the camera. I need to be able to point the camera at a window and i need to see the stuff happening outside the window, but the exposure is blown out and totally white. Adjusting the brightness downward results in a darkroom but the window is still totally white.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the brightness and exposure issue. We understand your need to monitor both the inside and the outside of a window.

Please note that we do not recommend pointing any indoor camera directly at a window, glass door, or any highly reflective surface.  If the camera is installed behind glass, infrared light may cause reflections, resulting in blurry or unclear images, thereby hindering the timely detection of moving objects, especially in nighttime scenes.

Since your model is the Tapo C402 KIT (Hardware V2), please be advised that this device is designed and rated for outdoor use. For your specific use case of viewing outside through a window, the most effective solution would be to install the camera outside, ideally under an eave or in a weather-protected location. This will allow it to properly expose the outdoor scene you wish to monitor.
