Generally, you can control the Tapo/Kasa device via the app both locally and remotely once set it up successfully. "Locally" refers to when your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Tapo/Kasa device. On the other hand, "remotely" refers to when your phone is connected to a different network.

If you are unable to control the smart device through the app, please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot.

2. If the smart device was working fine before, confirm if there are any changes in the router or the network environment.

3. Go to the “Device Settings” page on the Tapo/ Kasa app to check the signal strength of the Tapo/ Kasa device.
If the signal strength ranges from -70dBm to -40dBm, it means the smart device has a good signal from the router.
