KS230 in a 4-way switch
KS230 in a 4-way switch
Adding a comment here, because I was pulling my hair out and not finding anything on the Internet with how this can be done specifically
I have Kasa HS230. I bought two of the version 1.0 kits.
I was able to make this work on a four way, but it does require using one main and 2 satellites. So you’re going to buy two kits and have an extra main that is worthless at the end of the day.
Main gets wired up on the line side as normal.
The satellite on the other three way switch gets wired up as normal.
In the middle, where I have four wires coming in for my dumb four way switch I wired up an additional satellite. In my installation, my four-way travelers coming into that four way switch were white and red (4 wires total with a white and red coming from each 3-way switch). I have the whites both connected to the Traveler 1 and reds both connected to Traveler 2/load. Red and white Colors match the other Traveler 1 and 2 on the Main and other satellite.
Everything works perfectly.

@Clffhnger I did this, however the 4 way switch will not turn the lights off now. When you use that switch it does nothing (if lights are on and you flip it...lights stay on, if lights are off....doesn't turn them on)???
How did you get your 4-way to work?

@4wayman I have two 3 way switches with three 4 way in between. I just used a kasa 3 way smart switch replacing one of the 3 ways. Works every time for me. No companion switch or anything.

@4wayman Go buy Leviton DD00R-DLZ with the main Leviton unit. Works 4 or 5 way.

No I tried to get it to work using slave from additional kit and no go. I have used other devices years ago - old X10 stuff - and they would work just fine with one master and as many slaves as you like. But these don't seem to do it. It's unfortunate, as the TP Link guys could design something quick and easy. I will use the Levitan devices to get the 2 3way with 4 way setup I think. But then I will have 2 differen manufacturers in the house, which I prefer not to do. For reference, I am an electrician with more than 35 yrs experience.

If you're like me it was hard to understand what others are saying so here's a picture and diagram of what worked for me. I set up the main and satellite as normal. You'll need to buy two kits in order to get the extra satellite to replace the 4 way and set it up as such.

While it isn't a supported configuration, especially for a KS230, I do have a few questions about the setup just for my own knowledge
First, what hardware version of switch do you have? The most recent KS230 has interchangeable traveler wires, which I would assume would be less likely to work in a setup such as this.
Second, just for clarification, the two marks on the left are your main and satellite switches? How did you wire the connection for the travelers to the switch or with a splice?
