I just learned the hard way that the Tapo live view volume/mic level setting also controls the audio of recordings. This is unintuitive, misleading, and error prone.

Because the audio quality is so poor, with interference from wind and electronic glitches, I often have live view audio turned all the way down.

Today, I needed to check a recording and it was important to hear the audio. Much to my surprise, there was no audio on days and days of footage. After a significant amount of troubleshooting, I discovered that the live view volume/mic setting also controls the audio level of the recording. As a result, I've ended up with no audio on my scheduled local recordings.

My expectation is that the live view volume setting should only apply to live view volume. It should not also apply to recording mode volume, and it should not override or disable the audio of my recordings. Devices from competing smart camera manufacturers work this way. Also, in any device of software I've ever used that has a playback/recording paradigm of some sort, playback volume is one thing and recording level is an entirely different thing. They are not coupled together.

This is bad UI and it needs to be fixed.
