Optimise Deco placement
Optimise Deco placement
I have just bought Deco M9 with 2 units. My house is over 2 floors and internet/phone comes into house on ground floor in a corner of the house. How do I find out the optimal position for the second M9 unit to get maximum Wifi coverage. Also house is approx 3000 sq ft. Thanks.

Hello,
Ensure you are running the latest firmware on your Deco M9 Plus first. If your firmware is not the latest and the Deco M9 hardware version is V2, update it as below:
1. Download the second firmware on the official website, which is marked as Deco M9 Plus(EU)_V2_200324 or Deco M9 Plus(US) _V2_200324:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/deco-m9-plus/#Firmware
2. This new firmware can ONLY be updated via the Upgrade Tool, you cannot update it via web nor on the Deco app. Upgrade Tool can be downloaded from the below link:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/deco-m9-plus/#Utility
3. If you cannot log into the Upgrade Tool with your TP-Link ID and password, please try to forget your password on your Deco app and login again to confirm it is correct, do remember that both the ID and password are case-sensitive:
What if I forget the password of my TP-Link ID?
Note: If you still fail to update or login, please reply with some details, such as what is the computer operating system, what is the error message, it is suggested to try different computers.
Good day.

You can use the wifi analyzer to scan the signal strength from the main Deco and choose a good location for the slave one.
Or you can use the signal strength icon between the 2 Decos on the Deco app to give it a go.
Note: Once you relocate the slave Deco, you can click it on the Deco app and check the signal source.

Hi, sorry what I meant was how did you get to the screen shown in #6 above. If I click on the internet icon and then click on a room I can get something similar but it doesn’t have the level of detail in your screen shot, see below. Also is the wifi analyzer that you mentioned part of the deco app and if so, how can it be accessed? thx

Hello, the Deco M9 plus does not support the signal source or linked Deco yet.
It is planned to add these features on the next firmware.
You can keep an eye on official website for more updates.
Good day.
