Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Customers may encounter and report that the speed is slow or even less than half when connected to the network of the Archer AX50.

We here share a forum user’s case with the community that how he resolved the slow speed issue when connected to the Archer AX50 network.

Quoted from the user about the slow speed description:

“I recently had a Netgear R7000 on a 1000/550 connection and got around 650 - 700 Mbps when testing on fast.com and speedtest.net. Also tested via the android app at multiple times and on different computers at various times.

With the AX50 I get 340 - 350 Mbps on fast.com. Better results on speedtest.net, but that could just be because of different settings.

Does the AX50 throttle connections somehow?

It's clear that the AX50 for some reason is not performing like it should.

Any idea why this would be the case?

Atm no other devices are connected. What are recommended actions to take? Turn on/off WMM?

(There are no interfering devices in this area)”

We then guide him to check the QoS settings on the AX50 and found that the download and upload bandwidth don’t match the real speed he paid for. He modified the settings as we suggested, and he can get the desired bandwidth on the clients.

Step 1 Login to the AX50’s web interface page, go to Advanced > QoS > Application Priority, ensure it is on the Standard mode, check if the Total Bandwidth matches that you get from your ISP or modem. If not, please click the Edit button, tap Set Manually, and input the real upload and download bandwidth, then hit Save.

Step 2 Launch the Device Priority, ensure there is no device with the high priority (Priority is off/grayed out):

@Kevin_Z These are the tips, are they generally legal? By such things, you yourself confirm the stupidity and helplessness of the TPlink developers. Which stuffed a lot of checkmarks, beautiful buttons into the firmware, but you can't touch them otherwise the speed is half. Well then, do not do such things, because many people do not sit here in the forum and they have to suffer and put up with half the speed. And all the fault of bad developers.

@AndreiGavs

QoS is designed to ensure enough bandwidth for critical network traffic under limited network capacity conditions. For example, If your bandwidth is 250 Mbps or less download/upload, and you like gaming and streaming videos, then you can benefit from enabling QoS to minimize lag during online gaming or streaming. However, if the internet speed is over 300Mbps, like you've subscribed to a 1Gbps network, there is not a necessity to enable the QoS on the router.

How is this unnecessary? Am I buying a 300MB router, I don't have a 1000MB router. And if I have many clients connected to it, I need to assign a priority! If a function is declared, it must work to its fullest. And not to be a half measure.

@Kevin_Z

[Edit] : From the web interface : If I put 1000 Mbps in the DL textbox, I get a message "This number should be less than 1000"... !

How do you insert this value ? I have a Giga cable connection (1000DL/60UL)

From the tether android app, 1000 value is fine ==> +1 bug report

@Kevin_Z

Also one more remark, It is understandable that QoS is not necessary with 1Gbps connections for example, but unfortunately without QoS the traffic monitor stops working correctly. Please take note of this behavior, it is clearly not acceptable.

@Kevin_Z Any release planned for fixing this software issue (and others) on TP Link side ?

@Kevin_Z Clear the wireless environment when running a speed test on your wireless devices. Make sure that there are no barriers between the router and wireless device running a speed test, and the best location is 6-9 ft from the router. ... Disable the QoS and Parental Settings on the TP-Link router.

@Kevin_Z We then guide him to review the AX50's QoS settings and found that the bandwidth download and upload do not match the actual speed paid for by him. He has changed the settings as we suggested and the desired bandwidth is available to customers.

what to expect if this model has not received a firmware update for over 12 months ? from what I understand it is possible that this model will never receive a firmware update because it's a dead project,check the 2 versions AX10 V1 and AX20 V1 received the 2021 firmware update but AX50 V1 being superior to the 2 models did not receive any update it's pretty simple in my opinion

I posted in a topic created by me related to this model but no admin answered me https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/272350

@Kevin_Z I've done all the recommended configurations mentioned but I am still getting less than half of the speed provided by my ISP. I should be getting 300 Mbps but am actually getting about 100-120 Mbps. Connecting directly to my modem, I get around 275-290 Mbps. Please tell me why I am not getting the correct speed with the Archer AX50!
