SOLVED!!!!

I have T-mobile for cell, and have an app called T-mobile Wi-FiSecure (VPN) which caused the issue! When I turned it off, the rainbird app worked fine. (See pink image.)

I have a Rainbird Lawn Sprinkler that has a controller that works by wifi. It requires 2.4 ghz. I have Deco M9 and it should put our both 2.4 and 5. According to what I understand, the unit should connect on 2.4 by itself.  It starts the process but gets hung up at the last step: "Waiting from Response from Controller". I called Rainbird and they said it NEEDS to have 2.4 GZ. Other than that, they had no suggestion as to what was wrong.  I tried restricting the setting (on the app) to 2.4 only and started the process all over several times. I selected the regular wifi network and also the one that said 2.4 following it. It always say hung up on the "waiting for response from controller" step.

I'm stuck! Ideas?

TIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  @GreyMouse65

Hi, you could check whether there are special characters in the password, like blank spaces or "@ ^ & and  ‘(apostrophe).

Then turn off "fast roaming" and "beamforming" under Deco APP>More>Advanced.

best regards.

@David-TP, no special characters. Just letters and two numbers.

Fast roaming was off. Just disabled Beamforming.

Tried setup again (on regular 2.4 and 5) but got hung up at same place.

If the controller info specifies I must use 2.4 band, should/can I try to setup controller with the wifiname2.4 Wi-Fi network selected on my phone or just the wifiname network? Should I go to deco app and select 2.4 only?(And if after the controller does connect, must I leave it all set like this for the controller to work, because if I understand correctly, the beauty of dual band is letting the router work seamlessly to make the mesh system be as fast as it can be!)

I got the firmware update for my 5300 and no matter what combination I use to connect my IoT devices, none of them will connect. I've tried the main SSID, the IoT SSID as well as the guest network. I've tried just one node restricted to 2.4 only and nothing connects. New connections, like my cell phone, work fine. SSID is the same, devices are like Wyze v2 cameras and SimpliSafe cameras.

I know a little bit about this stuff, I'm an IT network guy for 25+years.  Ironically when I fire up the old router (also a TP-Link but non-mesh) everything works flawlessly. I'm stumped. Disabled beamforming.

@GreyMouse65 This usually happens when the channel width of the 2.4/5 GHz is not recognized by your devices. Use 20Hz channel width for 2.4 GHz band.

@Sai_R  what does that mean, or rather how do i set the 20 Hz channel width? (And how are us average users supposed to know about all this?$)

what I also don't get is after it (hopefully) connects, I can switch my phone back to the regular network (where both 2.4 and 5 is enabled, right? And when I use the app, do I have to change my phone back to the 2.4 band network, or is it just for initial setup, or...?

PS it used to connect. Then it started having inconsistent delays. Then it just quit altogether. I don't know what changed....

@GreyMouse65 When we reset/configure the WiFi router, it sets 2.4 GHz on 20MHz channel width by default. Several old equipments do not recognise 40MHz.

I'm just suggesting you to check your WiFi router configuration. But it's your wish.

@Sai_R It's my wish to get my rainbrid controller app to work. I just have no idea how to do what you are suggesting. HOW do I check router config, and HOW would I set it to 20MHz (if that is what you are suggesting) or 40MHz if that is what you are suggesting?
