Model: TL-SG1016PE
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20230219 Rel.70930

Hi, I've purchased a SG1016PE as I've run out of ports on my existing switch and am having some problems with setting up the VLAN's on it. What I'm trying to achieve is my trunk port will be coming from my Dell server NIC to the SG1016PE, this is due to my Dell running Proxmox and then pfSense as a VM with VLAN's on it.

I've got VLAN 50 for VM's associated to my Proxmox server and it provides internet via the WAN side of pfSense.

At the moment, I have two cables connected to my new switch Port 1 which is for my Desktop PC and Port 16 that is currently connected to the existing switch TL-SG2210P.

Current switch (TL-SG2210P)

New switch (SG1016PE)

This is how my new switch is configured VLAN wise, ignore VLAN 75 for the moment as I need VLAN 50 up first:

Port 1 --> Desktop PC - PVID 1 - Untagged VLAN 1 and VLAN 50

Port 3 --> Dell NIC - PVID 1 - Untagged VLAN 1, Tagged VLAN 50

My issue is when I connect Port 3, I can still ping servers internally on my VLAN but I loose internet access.Should I look to remove Port 16 when I attempt to connect Port 3, is it causing a potential loop?

Could it also be because the TL-SG2210P is a L3 switch and the routes are setup on that whereas the SG1016PE has no routing function?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

A quick update, if I disconnect the cable from Port 16 and connect Port 3 it works but I can't access anything on VLAN 50. When I check pfSense it is getting a DHCP address from VLAN 2  but as you can see in the second image both switches on on VLAN 50:

  @natedog082 I wonder why you put NIC and Router in the same LAN? maybe it will cause network conflict.

  @natedog082 Is 192.168.2.xxx in the default VLAN? We haven't seen any descriptions about it in your previous description.

  @Dahliana 192.168.2 is a VLAN for LAN in pfSense though I don't think I need this one as I only want 50 (General) and 75 (Cameras). I managed to get the my devices setup on my new switch though it is all on the LAN VLAN.

I want to build out the 50 and 75 VLAN's on the switch but the old UI doesn't appear to be straightforward. The majority of my devices will live on VLAN 50 and VLAN 75 will only be for my cameras but I will want them to communicate with devices on VLAN 50.

  @natedog082

you should draw a diagram for others to understand you vlan tag and network design.

i think you should reply on yourself because there isn't too much helpful information we get.

supposedly nic should use untagged vlan, I am not sure how you set the vlan on the dell nic and make it work. you said that you have pfsense, then you should have two adapters? one virtual and one physical?

then you set the physical nic to vlan 50?  you lose internet because your nic is set to vlan 50 and your servers are in vlan 50. while your router is on vlan 2. is the pfsense creating vlan interface or 802.1q vlan? do you have communication between the vlans?

2210p is capable of stp, if there is a network storm, you should find some signs in the wireshark. have you checked the 2210p about its stp? this seems to create a loop, yes.

port 1 on the 1016pe is on vlan 1 due to pvid is set to 1. and 2210p is vlan 1 as well. this is a loop.

i think you should give more info to the community or you are on your own.

  @Tedd404

Thanks for the response, I've done my best in Paint to give an idea of how it is set out, my Paint skills certainly aren't the best.

I hope that this helps provide more context.

The Dell server has an pfSense VM, it has two NIC's assigned to it virtually. The ideal situation is that I will be removing the ASUS Modem (when I've got some spare time in the coming weeks) and will be connecting my WAN from the NBN connection to P16 on the switch or straight to Dell NIC 2 for the WAN, unsure what the best way to go is for that, so am open to suggestion.

My main objective first is to get the VLAN's sorted.

PS, the TL-SG2210P has been removed as the 16port switch is sufficient for the amount of devices I have.

  @natedog082

port 5-7 should be untagged and pivd is set to 75. cameras should be working in vlan 75

dell nic 1 should be vlan 75, tagged.

switch to dell nic 1 should be tagged vlan 75 as well

  @Tedd404

Thanks for the reply, what about VLAN 50 as the cameras on 75 will need to communicate with the Dell server on VLAN 50, it has BlueIris along with the storage.

  @natedog082

aint you able to access it from vlan 50 to vlan 75?

do you create the vlan interfaces on the pfsense? is it vlan interface? if yes, then between vlans, they should communicate. you just need to worry about the vlan config.

you should seek help from the pfsense then.

  @Tedd404

Yes, VLAN 50 and 75 are both created on pfSense and it was working with the previous switch. My question is, how would I apply the correct tagging on the TP-Link switch?
