Model: Tapo C425
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.18

Just got my first C425, followed the instructions about cleaning the surface and how to apply the sticker - didn't work. After about 3 hours since installation the camera dropped from about 2 meters.

It did survive the fall pretty flawlessly though, at least it's built tough - but why include the sticker at all if it's not reliable?

The installation option "Stick to a clean wall" applies best to smooth surfaces made of tile, glass, marble, and metal. Sticking to coarse, porous, and other textured surfaces may result in damage from falling off.

What type of wall did you apply the 3M sticker to? Please share pictures of the mounting location (where the 3M sticker were applied) and the back side of the magnetic base/metal plate.

@Wayne-TP It was installed on a glass window (properly cleaned beforehand). The side that didn't stick was the one on the metal mount. It's already mounted high up in the wall with screws so I don't want to remove it, just wanted to leave this product feedback that the sticker didn't hold my unit. Luckily it survived the fall and I'm happy with it now.

Do you mean the camera falls from the magnetic base? Or the magnetic base from the metal plate?

We're appreciate it if you could share a picture of where the camera was previously installed. Our tech team would like to see the environment where this issue is occurring, to document this case.

@Fbphoto I had the same problem with two cameras, Tapo C425.

In my case, I am not so lucky, as one of the cameras has a permanent red light on and will not function anymore. The cameras stayed up for five days before falling.

I have read the replies to others. The surface where the adhesive sticker is placed has been singled out as the primary problem.  I can report that this is not the problem in my case, as the sticker is still firmly stuck onto the surface. The real problem is that the adhesive is not adhering enough to the Tapo round plate.

CAN YOU ADVISE?     CAN I HAVE A replacement camera, under warranty, as the damage is related to the Tapo round plate and its poor bonding to the Tapo adhesive.

  @Wayne-TP

Let's cut to the chase, TP, and cut out the crap. At this stage, I think you know perfectly well what the problem is.

The double-sided adhesive tape is delaminating from the metal plate;  the adhesive is insufficient to support the weight of the camera. Over time, the camera will fall together with the round plate attached. These are the facts.

You supply both the adhesive and the plate.  In my case, the adhesive is still stuck to the glass, and the plate doesn't even have any residue.

I still have the faulty camera; please do the right thing and take it back to have it replaced.

TP-Link have some fantastic products, but this does not make you a good company. It's how you react when problems arise.

I have had to make a new account as I had two for some reason , but all sorted out now...verified...I am the same person who posted few days ago UK1.

Yes, I have to agree with the above comments... with a lot of experience using these types of tape... just because it says 3M VHB doesn't mean it's going to work... I am quite surprised because this tape is usually absolutely rock solid on a metal surface but I don't know. I'm guessing maybe it's the paint that they've used on that metal plate.... just don't quite understand it but the fact here is

the adhesive is not sticking to that metal plate and it's slowly coming off.

That is where the key issue is.... and I find that strange because this is a really good company that has products that we have used for many years

there is no questioning that.... but when you sell these items & state it can stick up with this 3m method,

you need to take responsibility from when it falls off

which I'm sure they will. I have spoken to the customer services and they have listened to my feedback. I will accept that they've been quite helpful in my case.

At the end of the day, I'm giving the feedback it makes no difference to me but it just question some of the manuals.

Personally, I would put in the manual use the 3M tape at your own risk... simple having said that I do believe there are other types out there that would stick solid to the surface because I've actually tested it... but ironic thing is it was some cheap double sided tape that actually worked...hell I even suggest super gluing one side of the adhesive to the metal plate and then just use the normal adhesive tape side to the glass that way you haven't damaged anything.... it's better than the camera coming down and falling on somebody's head.

Re:Sticker didn't stick, camera fell within hours
Friday

We understand there are some concerns regarding the installation method of the camera using a 3M sticker. The adhesion strength of the 3M adhesive has certainly undergone stringent and thorough testing before shipping to ensure its performance meets the specified standards. However, due to variations in temperature and humidity, installation methods, duration of use, and even extreme environmental conditions, the stability of the 3M adhesive can be somewhat unpredictable. To address this, we also provide a screw mount option in the packaging for users, which offers a more stable installation method.

If you are worried about the camera falling or if your device has already experienced this issue, we recommend the following to ensure the camera's stability and prevent further damage:

  1. Refer to the installation guide and use the screw mount method to install the camera securely.
  2. If your device has fallen and been damaged due to the 3M adhesive coming loose, please contact TP-Link technical support for warranty assistance.

Regarding this installation method, we would like to reiterate some key installation requirements and methods, as they are crucial for preventing installation issues.

1. Read the installation guide before the installation: Tapo C425_V1.20_Quick Installation Guide

2. Recommended surface types: smooth surfaces made of tile, glass, marble, and metal.

3. Before installation, please thoroughly clean the wall surface and the metal plate to ensure that their surfaces are free from dust, dirt, oil, and other contaminants.

4. During subsequent use, if you need to remove the camera for charging, please securely hold the magnetic base and gently twist the camera to detach it from the base, avoiding a direct pull. The magnetic attraction between the camera and the base is strong, and frequent pulling can affect the adhesion strength of the 3M adhesive.
