Hi there!

I'm new to router and Network setup and could use some advice.

I'm looking at the ER707-M2 router for a small office/home setup.

Here's what I want to do:

  1. Use the router as a simple firewall
  2. Connect to my provider's 2.5 Gbit access point via WAN port
  3. Use one 2.5 Gbit LAN port to connect to a switch and provide full 2 GBit access to all ports and new devices
  4. Enable DHCP on the router for a single LAN network (unless you guys have a better suggestion)
  5. Connect to my TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro Wi-Fi 6E Mesh for streaming home automation and other older Wi-Fi devices

Before buying, I want to make sure this setup is possible and not overkill. While I don't need VPN now, it might be useful later.

Can anyone confirm if the ER707-M2 is suitable for this setup and not a overkill?

Any advice or alternatives are welcome!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards

Don't see anything wrong with this setup. Pretty decent.

As your ISP provides 2.5G, it is not overkill. As for the Deco which you will use as Mesh AP down the road, it might not fully utilize the 2.5Gb if they don't have 2.5Gb ports.
