Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.7.0 Build 20250228 Rel 64570

I just installed my set of Deco M4's. I just returned my XE75 set as my older laptop could not connect to it using Wifi 6 protocols.

The router of my ISP is acting as the main router in my setup. I have set the Deco to acces point mode.

The main deco is directly connected by a network cable to one of the ports of the router of the ISP.

On the second floor I have an old ASUS AR-AC87U router, also in acces point mode. The WAN port of this router is connected directly to another port on the router of the ISP by a network cable. This has always worked fine.

I have connected the second Deco with a network cable to one of the ports of this ASUS router. In the demo app, the connection shows as wired and this works fine.

But when I connect the 3th deco with a network cable to another port the ASUS router the problems begin. At first also this connection shows as wired in the deco app, but then app reports that the internet connection on the entire set it lost. And indeed the internet connection on my devices drops. The only way to resolve this is by disconnection the netwerk cable to the third deco and after a few minutes the system restores itself. Then the third deco is wireless connected to the second one.

Even when using that same network cable, but now plugging it into the second deco directly instead of the ASUS router, the problem comes back again.

What is wrong in this setup? Why? And how can I cannot the third deco wired? The problem is not in the wiring, it is already there for some years and did not cause any problems.

Thanks for your help!

Gert

  @David-TP Thanks for the suggestion to replace the ASUS with another switch (a TP-link LS1005G). When I was doing this and connected the second deco to the switch, the same problem appeared. This made me thinking and I guess the main issue is: that the deco needs to be restarted. When the second (or third) deco is connected wireless to the first deco and then the netwerk cable is connected to this deco, this does trigger something that causes the network to go down and then the first deco reports that the internet connection is down.

Maybe the deco's do recover from this issue but then I did not wait long enough.

So with this knowledge I tried this again with the ASUS instead of the switch. Now I first connected the network cable from the switch to the deco and then connected the deco to the power. This approach worked fine for both the second and third deco.

Finally I did retire the ASUS en put back the switch (and then powered the deco's back on) as I expect the switch to consume less power.

This is how my final setup does look now:

- The first deco is connected to a port of the router of the ISP. (The deco is in accespoint mode)

- A switch is connected to another port of this router

- The second and third deco are connected to ports on this switch

  @Gert26

Hi, welcome to the community.

Did it help if the old ASUS AR-AC87U is connected behind the main Deco M4, instead of the ISP router, such as:

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP Dank voor je reactie.

Gert

Hi, thanks for the update.

I'd like to follow up on your case via email and consult the senior engineer for more advice.

Apart from the Asus router, do you happen to have a standard network switch so that we can use it to replace the Asus router?

By the way, when the 3rd M4 is attached by an Ethernet cable and the internet stops, would all Deco M4 turn red?

Can I have a screenshot that "Deco app reports that the internet connection on the entire set is lost"?

-If you can go to Deco APP>More>Internet Connection, can you help me save a picture of the IPV4 settings?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
