Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

Deco m9plus v2 if they are updated to any firmware beyond 1.6.4 and you try and select a connection preference then they devices will brick and needed to be reset.

During initial setup they will only connect to the main deco and after a connection preference is set they will not even connect to that anymore and need the firmware manually rolled back.

This affects new setups and updates of existing setups

  @Matt-oc

Thanks for the update.

An official version 1.9.1 has started releasing recently, and it also includes the beta firmware from 1.8.1 beta.

Maybe you can stay on the 1.6.4 version for now and wait for the firmware push notification on the Deco APP later.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Not going to lie that's a new one for me. Going to have you open up a ticket on this.

To open a support ticket for the Deco app:

  1. Launch the Deco app and log in.
  2. Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner.
  3. Select "Support Center".
  4. Choose a related FAQ article.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the FAQ page and tap "No, I need more help".
  6. Tap "Email Us".
  7. Select "Suggestion" from the "what can we help you with" options.
  8. Fill in the remaining information, including details about the issue.
  9. Check the "Add System Logs" box (optional but recommended).
  10. Tap "Send" to submit the support ticket.

Sure thing I will fill in the report now. This affected 6 different decos in exactly the same way and the only way I could regain functionality was to install firmware 1.6.4 manually back onto each one.

edit:

The box only allowed 500 chars so just to clarify even further: on any firmware past 1.6.4 if you set a connection preference on a deco the light will go red blinking and it wont communicate with either the main deco or the connection preference setting even when right beside each other. The decos seem to want to only talk to the main deco regardless of signal strength when reset and any setting other than auto renders them inoperable.
They can be reset using the button and re adopted, however again they will only talk to the main deco and if you try and set a connection preference they will lose all connection again once rebooted (they stay connected to the main deco when you set a connection preference).

The only solution was to manually roll back the firmware to 1.6.4 and everthing behaved as it should.

All decos were running the same firmware (tried multiple) when they had this bug.

  @Matt-oc

Hi, can I have the new firmware versions you have updated after 1.6.4?

There used to be a similar feedback about 1.8.0/1.8.1 and later; a 1.8.1 beta here has fixed this issue:

Weak Signal on the Satellite Deco after updating Deco M9 Plus to 1.8.1

It is recommended to test whether this version helps fix the reported issue.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP it wasn't beta firmware it was just the standard firmware it auto updated to.

Thatdoes definitely sound like a similar issue however in my case if I set a connection preference that wasn't already set it bricked the deco. I'm not willing to test the beta as it took over 2 hours to fix the mess after the last update and more time troubleshooting what was going on.

One deco was extremely reluctant to go into http U boot mode and took about an hour and multiple resets to finally get the web page to show.
