Model: Tapo C460 KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Version 1.2.1 Build 251112 Rel. 36676n

Hello, the Camera C460 KIT keeps connecting to an AP whose RSSI value is limited to -70db, so the camera automatically connects to the H500, which has better signal strength. The app shows that the camera has an RSSI value of -82db, which is obviously much too low. How can this be fixed?

  @iThMe,

From the camera's network settings, do you have the Wi-Fi backup feature enabled?

I would also potentially recommend that the you choose the hub as the storage method if you have not already.

Lastly, and most likely, this revolves around band compatibility:

  • The C460KIT is capable of communicating with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi
  • For the H500, the 5GHz band is reserved for communicating data from your hub to your home wi-fi, while only the 2.4GHz band is available for connecting cameras directly to the hub's AP.

To me, it looks as though your camera is favoring or cannot switch off of your home's 5GHz Wi-Fi - whether that be when trying to switch to a more readily available 2.4GHz network, or to the hub's 2.4GHz network.

  @Riley_S

Have you enabled the Wi-Fi security feature in the camera's network settings?

 Yes, that has already been done.

I would also recommend selecting the hub as the storage location, if you haven't already done so.

Yes, that has already been done.

Finally, this is most likely a matter of band compatibility:

    The C460KIT can communicate with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
    On the H500, the 5 GHz band is reserved for data transfer from your hub to your home Wi-Fi, while only the 2.4 GHz band is available for direct connection of cameras to the hub's AP.

In my opinion, it seems that your camera prefers your home's 5 GHz Wi-Fi or cannot switch off from it – whether when trying to switch to a more readily available 2.4 GHz network or to the hub's 2.4 GHz network.

The transmission power of the AP has now been adjusted again, and the camera is now communicating stably with the H500.
