Model: Archer T6E
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1

Just got the TP-Link T6E AC1300 and noticed that the speeds are about 2x less than they should be. I moved the PC right next to the router and it is only getting about 100mbps  down (upstairs it only got 20mbps), whilst my other PC which is all the way upstairs is getting 200mbps down.

Tried:

  • Restarting router and PC
  • Downloading latest drivers from the tp-link website (specifically from here)
  • Moving around antennas and tightening them

I also went into the Network Adapter Properties to try to manually switch it over from the 2.4ghz band to the 5ghz band, but in Band Preference I only see 802.11a & 802.11g/b. There is no 802.11ac, which I imagine is the one I want to have selected.

It didn't allow me to select 2.4ghz or 5ghz in the drop down menu, just showed me the two network protocols i mentioned above.

@TobiasJ

Hi, this Archer T6E is compatible with Windows 10.

Please try to update the following driver to have a look:
https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201911/20191129/Archer T6E T9E_ASUS driver_7.35.351.0.zip

How to install the driver: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/920/

Please then confirm if you are connected to the router 2.4G or 5G, you are suggested to adjust the 5G wireless channel on the wireless router, BTW, what is the model number of your router? What is the distance between them? Ensure you can get a good signal from the router, otherwise, the speed may not be good.

@mrpeete I was getting speeds of 30 Mbps even though I can get 400 Mbps on my phone sitting at the exact same place. I first uninstalled the Device (Go to Network Connections --> Right Click --> Properties --> Configure --> Driver --> Uninstall Device)  and then installed the driver provided by TP Link. Do it in that order. If you try to install TP Link driver first, it won't install even if it tells you that the installation is successfully. My speed went to 250 Mbps. Not as good as I expected, but much better than 30 Mbps. To confirm that you have the right driver, under Network Connections --> Right Click --> Properties --> Configure --> Driver, Driver Provider should be TP-Link Technologies Co., Ltd. and not Microsoft.

Hi,

What is the operating system of your computer?  Windows 10, right?

What about the wifi signal strength on your computer?

With your computer connected to the wifi, please check the wireless negotiation speed. Instruction as below:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/

Besides, you can refer to the instruction below to do further analysis.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/709/

What is more, try to change another PCI-e slot to plug this adapter and give it a go.

Any updates, just let us know.

@Superior3000

Archer T6E is a dual band PCI-e adapter, so the original driver supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz both.

You can try to install the public driver attached on another thread.

Any updates, please let us know.

@Kevin_Z this does not help at all. With a wired connection I can run ~800mbps but with the T6E I get 16mbps. Is this card compatible with Windows 10? I'm one day away from returning this scammy card.

@Captain918 Hello,

Please make sure other Wi-Fi client can good get speed from router first.

1> Did you install the latest driver on tp-link official website for Archer T6E? If not , please have a try.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/archer-t6e/#Driver

2> If you already tried official driver, please try to update the following chipset driver provided by @Kevin_z and see if this helps
https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201911/20191129/Archer T6E T9E_ASUS driver_7.35.351.0.zip

How to install the driver: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/920/

If speed still does not improve, may I have a photo of the 5Ghz speed test results from router, and 5Ghz Link speed on T6E computer : https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/
