Separate 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz on Deco M4
Hi,
I configured the m4 as a router and I need to separate the 2.4 and 5 ghz bands, but on the app (Android in my case), i don't see the switch option in Main Network as written in the guide https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1591/
how can i do?
thanks

Hi,
Thank you very much for your concern about this case.
Currently, we did not have the plan to add separate SSID for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, only separate on/off switch for the two bands.
Since the reason we bought Deco is mainly for its mesh feature, if you use two SSIDs on the Deco, it would break the mesh.
And there would be a workaround for your reference:
1. set up main network with 5ghz only for one SSID;
2. then create a guest network with 2.4ghz only for another SSID;
Thanks a lot for your understanding and support.

The FAQ attached takes Deco M9 plus as example, while the Deco M4 does not have this feature yet to separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
But do not worry about it, this feature will be added in next firmware, you can wait a while for the updates.

@sasasi91
I've been waiting for this feature, too. I've had two (2) firmware upgrades since buying my Deco M4 last June, and hasn't included this feature yet. :(

Not only wifi name seperation but also manual set of channels and channel width, at least on the 2.4Ghz since this is the one overcrowded and always needs manual tuning on "any router", and not be an automatic router decision (that also has a fixed 40Mhz sidth). This has been requested several times in the past, all us are still waiting for that "special" firmware release ...

@Togusa A lot of us are waiting on this feature. Some devices struggle with the SSID being fixed as the same for the 2.4 and 5GHz bands. I have a security alarm and a video doorbell that flat refused to connect and configure, both are 2.4 GHz band only devices. The solution was to switch off the 5GHz band, get the problem devices configured and connected on their 2.4GHz band, then switch the 5GHz band back on. The problem devices are now happy on their 2.4GHz band, even roaming without issue. And the other devices switched back to 5GHz band as appropriate, with no noticeable effects during the process.
All that said, I would prefer the option of different SSIDs. AND a password option on the guest network would be nice too.

Hi
Does the M4 yet have the firmware to enable and disable the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks indivually? I would like to buy the M4 but need to be able to disable 5GHz to setup Alexa smart lights

well that has just stopped me spending money on these, cannot believe you cant split. @Kevin_Z add on that TP-Link suggest they will provide an update and after all this time they havent or havent even bothered to update these threads.
