Deco m5 separate 2.4 from 5 ghz
Hi,
Is there a way to create another wireless wifi point 5ghz or 2.4?
I down want to use the same ssid with both 2.4 and 5.
Since theres a speed issue in mt case 5ghz much faster and a lot of my wireless devices are already connected to 2.4 with deferent ssid.legacy things or devices that not support 5 google home.alexa smart bulbs etc...
The guest network can give the solution but seems like its an isolated network and not working properly.
Please advise...

Currently, Deco does not support setting up different SSID for 2.4ghz and 5ghz yet.

Hi,
Mesh system can mesh 2.4 and 5 ghz separately.
The thing is the ssid.
I have 30 devices connected at 2.4 and i need to go to every device and change it separately to meet 5 ssid?
What you suggested is not a solution since if there an power outage the 2.4 or 5 will mixed again.
Or what if i want to join a new device under 5ghz a week later.
Had ddwrt before and mesh worked separately just fine.

Hello, yes, you are right, they can mesh between different wifi networks and different nodes. The SSID is the same.
If you want to connect specific device to 2.4GHz or 5GHz only, per I mentioned before, you can connect to it first and then disable the mesh technology.
For your information, the Mesh Technology option is the switch for 802.11k/v. With this feature enabled, the client can seamlessly switch to the Deco node that provides the fastest speed as you move around. Disable this feature only when you want to turn off seamless roaming between Decos for this client. After this option is disabled, roaming can only be initiated by the clients themselves.
So with mesh technology feature turned off, the Deco won't suggest clients to roam. Therefore we can use it to satisfy your needs.

Is it possible in AP mode, to run the mesh as normal and the guest with a separate ssid and only in 2.4Ghz in order to have the equipments connected that can do only 2.4ghz ?
is that possible with the DECO line?

Whilst this thread sheds some light on the issue and also states a few workarounds, we still plea to TP-Link to give us better user customization options for example regarding separate SSIDs and channels.

Basically im happy with the m5 all 5 of them.
But its for "Dummies" less configuration less headaches .
But if your a tech savvy and now your stuff you should be buying something else.

@Kevin_Z FYI, I returned my Deco unit a while back for the lack of *rational* options for having separate SSID's for the different bands, but on top of that I have also convinced other people that were looking at buying a Deco unit OUT of buying them for this reason.
I will continue to anti-advertise this product until sensible options are added.
Could you possibly tell us *WHY* you don't offer this standard option? Other mesh networks can do it. It seems like the ability could even be added via a firmware update.
P.S. Don't respond telling me how to workaround the dumb design decision, I am only interested in hearing a reply explaining why the feature is *missing*.
