I recently purchased a set of TP-Link Deco P9's as a means of providing extended Wi-Fi connectivity throughout my home.

However, the P9 (and it seems most Deco kit) is simply a router, with no modem funcationality.

I'm very unhappy with the supplied BT Smart Hhub provided by a leading UK ISP. Infact, i'm not a fan of IP supplied modem-routers as theyre often very limited in functionality and configurability.

I'm considering perhaps buying a TP-Link VDSL Wi-Fi router to replace the BT Smart Hub, but I have a question in relation to "integration" workability with Deco units. Is there any thing to take into consideration? If needed, i'd obviously most likely disable the Wi-Fi on the modem-router in favour of the Deco, but again i'm thinking there might be some integration functionality between two TP-link systems?

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello, below are some VDSL modem routers.

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/dsl-modem-router/?filterby=4882

First, you can use the VDSL modem router as bridge mode and the Deco P9 works in regular router mode and acts as the DHCP server. Like ISP--VDSL modem router( bridge mode)--Main Deco( router mode) ---/)))(((/PLC slave Deco P9.

Or you can use VDSL modem router as the regular router mode and the Deco P9 as the access point to avoid the double NAT issue.

Otherwise you can use both as regular router, then there will be two separate networks; the devices connected to the VDSL router cannot access the devices which connected to the Deco P9.

You can refer to the faq below to get the difference between router mode and AP mode.

May it help.
