Model: Deco E4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.0

Hi.

I have a Deco E4 and have a 300 Mbps broadband connection, but is only able to get less than 100 Mbps Wifi connection (up- and download) with my E4.

I can see that the E4 can deliver up 300 Mbps at 2,4 GHz, but did also read this in a support thread:

"Please note if the Deco model is a product with 100Mbps Ethernet ports, the maximum speed of the Deco system is 100Mbps only".

Now I am a bit confused. How I can fully use my 300 Mbps broadband connection with the E4?

(On a side note, I can around 300 Mpbs if I connect my computer directly to the fiber box, without the E4 in between).

Can someone can elaborate :-)

/Klaus

  Update:

As you know, the Ethernet port on the Deco E4 is up to 100m/s  so as long as the E4 is the main Deco, or the device is connected to E4 via Ethernet connection, the speed is capped at 100m/s. While users could get more than 100m/s from E4 when adding a gigabit port Deco,such as M5/M4/S4/P9/Deco M9 plus or our Wi-Fi 6/6E Deco series, then put E4 as a satellite Deco via Wi-FI backhaul.

Some users still reported that even with M4 as the main Deco, E4 as the satellite Deco, the wireless speed from E4 is still less than 100m/s.

Here we will provide more suggestions to see happened:

1. Please check the signal source on the Deco E4 and make sure the Wi-Fi backhaul signal is at least 2 bars.

Due to the working pattern and protocol/regulation of Wi-Fi technology, the more wireless hops, the slower the speed would be. so the internet speed of satellite E4 would be about 50%-70% of the main Deco varying in distance/barriers.

2. Then check the wireless link speed when the device is connected to E4How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client.

The maximum link speed of E4 is 300m/s for 2.4ghz and 867 Mbps for 5ghz and normally the final internet download speed would be 40%-50% of the link speed on the clients.

@KlausDetlef

Hello, Klaus, the Deco E4 has the 100Mbps ethernet ports, with it connected to the modem or other Deco by wired cable, the speed clients can get will be limited by the ethernet ports, which is to say, with E4 wired connected, the speed won't be higher than 100Mbps.

The 300Mbps is not the actual speed, instead, it is the wireless negotiation speed of 2.4GHZ; With Deco E4 connected to other Deco by wireless as a slave Deco, the wired speed from Deco E4 won't be higher than 100Mbps either due to the 100Mbps LAN ports, while cause the Deco E4 communicates with the front-end device by wireless, and the wireless negotiation speed of two wifi bands are 300Mbps and 867Mbps, the wireless speed can be able to reach more than 100Mbps.

Note: The actual wireless speed is about the 60% of the wireless negotiation speed and it is still affected by the bandwidth, interference and network environment.

Back to your case, cause you use the Deco E4 as the main Deco, then the maximum speed is limited to 100Mbps; you can return it and get a Deco with gigabit LAN ports.

May it help.

@Kevin_Z  Thanks. So if one uses a Deco M4/M5 as the main node (connected via ethernet) & use Deco E4 as slave nodes, one can get more than 100 Mbps speed on the E4s. Is that correct?

Thanks

Himanshu

@Himanshu_IN

Yes, theoretically the wifi speed can be higher than 100Mbps with E4 connected to the main Deco by wireless. The wired speed won't be higher than 100Mbps either.

Good day.

@Himanshu_IN

Hi, I am having the exact same issue as you.

May I ask, did you replace the main E4 and successfully get higher speeds with the slave E4s?

Hope to hear back, thank you!

@TaylorM I replaced it with a Deco M4, and everything worked perfect

@KlausDetlef

thanks for clarified the problem

just bought the device (E4) and was facing the same difficulty.

can you please suggest if I purchase a new single m4 dome and make it the main hub, whereafter I connect my e4 device wireless, will it upgrade the speed to 300mbps ?

@KlausDetlef Are you sure the problem got resolved? Did you run speed checks? I had the exact same problem and I replaced my main deco with an M5. But still i get less than 100Mbps on my slave Deco (E4s).

Hi, since the Deco E4 only comes with 100mbps ethernet ports. Is it possible for the main node connected with router wirelessly instead of connected via LAN cable ?

@Prannoy Yes it works. I have a few E4's around the house, but until recently only had slow internet speed coming in so the 100mbps wasn't limiting me. I've just had fibre installed, and replaced my 'main' E4 with a M5, and now get speeds of around 250mbps everywhere.
