Model: TL-WPA8630P KIT
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.0.3 Build 20171018 Rel.36564

Hello everyone,

since I switched from ubuntu 19.04 to ubuntu 19.10, I can no longer connect to the 2.4 GHz WLAN of my TL-WPA8630P Powerline adapter. Here is my hardware information:

  •     Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev bb)
  •     Powerline adapter: TL-WPA8630P which is connected to a
  •     Fritzbox: FRITZ! Box 6490 Cable (lgi)

A Windows 10, an ubuntu 19.04 and the ubuntu 19.10 are running on my computer.

The connection works under Windows and ubuntu 19.04.

With Ubuntu 19.10 the password is requested again after a connection attempt (approx. 15 to 20 seconds).

I can connect to the WiFi of the Fritzbox, I can connect to the 5GHz WiFi of the TL-WPA8630P. But the connection with the 2.4 GHz WLAN of the TL-WPA8630P does not work. If I start the ubuntu 19.10 from an installation stick, I can not establish a connection with the 2.4 GHz WLAN.

Does anyone have any idea what else I could try?

Thank you for thinking along. Greeting,

Mathias

@mrettich

Try to change the wireless channel and channel width of the TL-WPA8630P via the tpPLC utility.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1611/

Besides, you can change the wireless password to give it a go.

@Kevin_Z

Hello Kevin,
many thanks for your response. Unfortunately, changing the channel or
the channel width did not work.

The password is very simple. It contains no special characters.

Greeting,
Mathias

@mrettich

You can try to update the driver of the network adapter built-in the computer.

Or you can disable the security of the 2.4GHz and give it a go; then you can verify whether you can connect this PC to the open wifi.

Besides, you can upgrade/degrade the OS version of the linux PC.

If still the same, I'm afraid that there is not much we can do on this adapter.

Good day.

Hello Kevin_Z,

In the meantime, I also tested openSuse and ubuntu 20.04 and found that kernel 4.x had no problem with the connection.
The problem occurs with Kernel 5.x.

Does that bring anything?

Thanks again ,
Mathias

Hey @Kevin_Z

I have the same problem with EAP225. I cannot connect with my Ubuntu 20.04 to 2.4GHz.

It is any solution or settings suggestion for this issue?

Best regards
