Model: Archer VR600v
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 0.6.0 0.9.1 v0075.0 Build 200226 RC.61054n

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing weird issues in my network, using an Archer VR600v v2 ("main wifi") and the TL-WPA8630P Kit (Hardware v1; "sec. wifi").

My setup:

- both devices have the same wifi configuration

- Archer is handling DHCP

- primary and secondary DNS in the Archer points to a pi-hole running on a fixed IP in the LAN (static assignment by Archer's DHCP)

- "AP isolation" is turned off

- no guest networks are enabled

Case 1:

Wifi device connects to main wifi, hasn't been connected to sec. wifi before.

=> WAN and LAN are accessible without any issue, the device is shown connected via "wireless" in the Archer, not listed in the TL-WPA.

Case 2:

Wifi device connects to sec. wifi, has or hasn't been connected to main wifi before (i.e. doesn't matter).

=> WAN and LAN are accessible without any issue, the device is shown connected via "wired" in the Archer, "wireless" in the TL-WPA.

Case 3:

Wifi device connects to main wifi, has been connected to sec. wifi before.

=> WAN access works fine (except DNS, so basically unusable), LAN access won't work for ~5 minutes. The device is shown connected via "wireless" in the Archer, "wireless" in the TL-WPA. After ~5 minutes, all is shiny, the device will still be listed "wireless" in the TL-WPA for a while but disappear eventually.

Since I've got services running locally that I need to be able to access from anywhere in the house, that's an issue for me. Plus I think it shouldn't be an issue anyway.

I'll be thankful for any hint on how to figure out what's wrong with my setup or how to solve this.

@Rekhyt Hello,

Thank you for your detailed description.

If the issue still persists, may I know your network topology or can you draw a network map ?

For '  WAN access works fine (except DNS, so basically unusable), LAN access won't work for ~5 minutes. '

Can you help explain how did you test the WAN/ LAN access and find that's stop working?

If there is any Error message or ping test results, please also share with us, thank you~

@TP-Link Thank you for looking into this matter. When trying to update the firmware I get an error:

Error code: 71211
Failed to upload upgrade file. Please select the correct file.

I tried using both the ZIP and the included .bin file. Is there anything else I need to do? My current firmware and hardware versions read:

FW: 0.7.0 0.9.1 v0075.0 Build 200616 Rel.36749n

HW: Archer VR600v v2 00000000

As I am in the EU, that part should be fine also.

Here's a diagram I drew of my home network:

Basically, the Wifi clients can't see LAN devices anymore when switching from Wifi 2 to Wifi 1. The effect lasts for 1-5 minutes, then everything's fine. Everytime a connection to Wifi 2 is made, even if it's only seconds, the effect will reoccur when going back to Wifi 1.

The Pihole just made me aware of the issue because name resolution wouldn't work anymore, hence no usable internet connection. The issue occurs independently from the Pihole, I had it in the Archer's DNS configuration but removed it since.

Edit: As to your question on errors I see, pings or other connections break up with a "destination unreachable" error.
