@TP-Link_Deco I am facing an issue that has not been mentioned earlier (or I have not dived deep enough). Many Google websites including YouTube, Drive and Gmail are not loading on my Chromebook. This is even after setting the security to WPA2. I can access these websites on all other clients on my home WiFi except for the Chromebook I got for my daughter for school. All these Google sites are used by the school district for instruction.

Google tech support rep helped in narrowing down the issue to security with the WiFi network. The websites are loading if I use my work AT&T phone as a WiFi hotspot.

I have AT&T Uverse (optic fiber) as my ISP with 1 Gbps plan. I have disabled WiFi on the AT&T gateway and am operating the base Deco in router mode.

My question is - will the network security issues be fixed if I re-enable WiFi on the AT&T gateway and use Deco in the AP mode? In other words, if Deco is used in AP mode, will the network security of the original wifi network be supported by Deco (sorry, I do not know the correct terminology to use).

There are 2 articles in the TP-Link KB regarding the use of Deco that make me slightly confused regarding the proper way to set up my wifi:

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1432/

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1842/

Which one of these is the correct and optimum method for the best security?

I purchased this chromebook solely for my daughter to access public school classes remotely. Now, thanks to TP-Link issues, this device is completely useless to my daughter and time is running out on the return window for the Chromebook.

Another alternative for me is to return the Deco to Costco and spend considerably more on a Netgear WiFi 6 mesh system.

Can someone please help before I have to resort to one of the above alternatives? Thank you.

I have my device that is connected directly to my modem in access mode and my modem's WIFi off and it works just fine.  I have no issues with any my devices accessing the internet.  I would avoid having both your modem and your TP-link device in router mode.

Background:

Some of you may have updated your Apple devices to the latest iOS 14 version and get a “Weak Security” warning message when connecting to the Deco network. This is because iOS14 and some new operating systems consider other than the latest WPA3 and WPA2 AES to have security issues.

Why Deco network is displayed as “Weak Security”?

Deco by default secures your wireless network with a mixed WPA/WPA2-AES/TKIP security, and it is not manually configurable. We currently only have the Deco X20 and Deco X60 support WPA3 security, and we will add more:

https://www.tp-link.com/wpa3/compatibility/

What to do?

We will soon release official firmware for the Deco devices to allow you to change the wireless security type in weeks, please keep an eye on your Deco app for the updates.

If you do worry about your network security and want to get rid of the “weak security” warning immediately, we have prepared the beta firmware for the Deco devices, you may update your Deco devices to this beta firmware as per your Deco models. We updated the download link in case there are models in your Deco network that don't support this feature yet to change the wireless security:

[Update on 19 NOV. 2020] New official firmware for some Deco models is available, the beta firmware is removed from the below list and it is suggested to update to the latest official firmware.

Deco M5_V1/V2/V3: new official firmware 1.4.9 Build 20200924 Rel. 60170 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly. If someone is currently on the newer 1.5.0 beta, he is not allowed to downgrade to the new 1.4.9 official, and it is suggested to wait for the 1.5.0 official firmware in the near future.

Deco M4(R)_V1/V2: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 74289 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco M9 Plus_V1: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 75286 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco M9 Plus_V2: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200921 Rel. 42500 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly. If someone is still under the older 1.2.x version, he will need to manually download the latest firmware from here, then update it via the Upgrade Tool.

Deco P7_V1: new official firmware 1.4.9 Build 20200918 Rel. 74680 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco P9_V1/V2: new official firmware 1.1.2 Build 20200918 Rel. 74476 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco E4_V1: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 44982 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco S4_V2: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 77820 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco W2400_V1: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 47959 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco AC1200_V1: new official firmware 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 48343 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco M1300_V1: new official firmware 1.4.9 Build 20200924 Rel. 66278 is now available, update it via the Deco  app or web interface directly.

Deco X60_V1: new official firmware Deco X60  V1_1.2.6_201013 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco X60_V2: new official firmware  Deco X60_V2_201013 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco X20_V1: new official firmware  Deco X20_V1_1.2.6_201013 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco X20_V1.2: new official firmware  Deco X20_V1.2_201013 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco W3600_V1: new official firmware  Deco W3600_V1_1.2.6_201013 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Deco M3W_V1:  new official firmware  M3W_V1_1.0.6_20201013 is now available, update it via the Deco app or web interface directly.

Note:

1. Once updated to this beta firmware, your Deco network security will be set to WPA2-PSK (AES) by default. If some of your old IoT devices cannot connect to the Deco network anymore, you need to change the security back to the mixed WPA2-PSK (AES)+WPA-PSK (TKIP) as your devices don’t support the newer AES version.

2. To change the security type on your Deco app, ensure you are running the latest Deco app on your phone, Android version 2.2.1, and iOS 2.2.2.

Launch your Deco app->MORE->Wi-Fi, tap the password box and you will be able to change the Security Type:

3. You can only update this beta firmware via your Deco device web interface: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1599/

Let the community know if you have any further inquiries, thanks a lot~

@jthcomputers I already tried visiting http://tplinkdeco.net and the lan ip but the web interface is not loading. I am directly connected to the master deco thru lan cable. I have a Deco M4R unit.

@TP-Link_Deco

You say: If someone is still under the older 1.2.x version, he will need to manually download the latest firmware from here, then update it via the Upgrade Tool.

But the tool is not available and the devices do not update. How can I get access to that tool?
