TD-W9970 DSL connection problem
I was with ISP 'C' for more than a year using their provided TD-W9970. Recently I switched to ISP 'A' and I have to return ISP 'C' modem. So I purchased exactly the same W9970 modem from Amazon.
Since the service with ISP 'A' has started (50Mbs VDSL), the new modem never ever showes solid DSL light. It starts flashing a few times and then goes off and this repeats every minute without any connection. I even tried another new W9970 modem, but exactly the same result.
Strangely the old modem W9970 from the previous ISP 'C' works completely fine and without any problem with the new ISP and its setting! (old modem's firmware is '0.9.1 2.7 v0025.0 Build 160725' which I can't find anywhere on the internet)
I am not an expert, but as my provider is changed this can not be MAC address locking by ISP or like this as I suspected at some point and thought maybe cloning is needed.
Please tell me what can cause this very strange problem and different responses from 2 (even 3) similar modems and how this can be resolved.
Thank you

Can you confirm the hardware version of the new W9970 modem, is it V1? You may check if there is any newer firmware for it:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/td-w9970/v1/#Firmware
Just to confirm, do you mean the old W9970 can work with the new ISP A? Who is A?

ISP 'A' (the new one) is Acanac and ISP 'C' (the old one) is Carrytel.
All the modems show "Hardware Version:TD-W9970 v1 00000001". Next to the barcode in the back, it says "Ver: 1.1", same for all modems.
Yes, only the old modem which is Carrytel's rental modem still works fine with Acanac, which I have to return it in 10 days.
None of the other two new TP-W9970 modems get solid DSL green light.
I tested the new modems with a neighbor's active ADSL line and still got no solid light for DSL! (if I am right, when a phone line has active ADSL internet, the modem should show solid DSL light even without any PPPoE settings.)
It is very odd that 2 new modems both be defected but it seems that's the problem.
By the way, I had tried before the Canadian firmware at the link that you sent, but although it says it is for V1 hardware, strangely when I tried to load it on the modem, I got the error "not compatible with this hardware" or like this! As I already mentioned, I am sure modems are V1 and I had selected V1 CA firmware on that link.

... the firmware of the modem that works fine is:
0.9.1 2.7 v0025.0 Build 160725 Rel.53791n_CA
and I can NOT find it anywhere else in the world!!!

Sorry for the late response. Can we have the modem device label display the region version and hardware version? This seems quite interesting that the same hardware cannot work on the same line. We actually don't agree the two new units are faulty, we will try to find it out soon, thanks.

Thanks for the follow-up. I am not sure what more details than what is said before you are asking but I just summarize what I think is helpful here:
The modem that works fine)
Hardware Version: TD-W9970 v1 00000001 (ver1.1 written on the box)
Firmware: 0.9.1 2.7 v0025.0 Build 160725 Rel.53791n_CA (can NOT find this firmware anywhere for installation)
The troubling modems)
Hardware Version: TD-W9970 v1 00000001 (ver1.1 written on the box)
Firmware: 0.9.1 2.5 v0025.0 Build 150917 Rel.56865n_CA
The region for all modems is Canada.
The problem with troubling (new) modems: The DSL green light just blinks about 5 times every couple of minutes and never stays solid.
Please let me know what more details you need.
Thank you.

Can you please show me the device label of the old W9970 as well as the new one?

Hi,
I have exactly the same issue with this modem model TD-W9970, brand new one. Trying to set it with Carrytel ISP (Canada)
DSL light only flashes for a few seconds and then goes off. Changed it in the store - exactly same problem.
Firmware: 0.9.1 2.5 v0025.0 Build 150917 Rel.56865n_CA
So the problem is this version firmware, as I understand?
(Old modem works fine with same settings)
Thank you

Hi,
This was never fixed for me!
One reviewer in Amazon says that EU firmware solved the problem, but not sure which one (country) exactly.
Carrytel own modems have a 2.7 firmware that strangely can not be found anywhere!
