TP-Link TL-WA850RE (Access Point) with Virgin Media Hub 3 - problems!

My set-up is
Virgin Media Hub 3 router > Ethernet to Comtrend powerline adapters > TL-WA850RE (Access Point)
I have just set up a new router and have problems with the stability of the TL-WA850RE.
Accessing the Hub's wifi directly is solid, but the range extender's wifi keeps dropping in and out.
Has anyone had such problems?
I have a vague notion that static/dynamic IP addresses may have something to do with it, but a bit out of my depth.
Also, as we speak, I am using the range extender's wifi, but on the TL-WA850RE configuration page the Internet "Status" is "unknown".
May be related.
