Deco M4 capped to 250 Mbps ?

Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 74289

Hi.

I have a Gigabit connection from my isp.

Connected directly to my modem with cat6 cable I get approx. 950 Mbps.

Connecting my modem to my main Deco, and then cable connection to my pc i max out at 240-250 Mbps (all cat6 cables)

Total Bandwidth under Qos in the Deco app is set to 1000/1000

Why am I not getting bether speed when using my Deco ? Does it not support 1000/1000 ?

Thanks in advance,

br

SpeedyG :)

@SpeedyG

Hi,

Would the Ethernet speed from the main Deco be the same, still 240-250 Mbps?

Could you please also turn off the UPNP feature in the Deco app;(More>advanced>UPNP)?

If it is still the same, could you please help me collect the following details so that I could forward your case to the senior engineers:

  1. The network structure of your Deco APP;
  2. The speed test result directly from the modem, as well as from the main Deco;
  3. The network adapter settings of your computer;

------ You may obtain the information of your PC’s network adapter from here: (For Windows PC only)

  1. Press WIN+R on the keyboard, type in “cmd” and enter, you will see a small black window.
  2. In the small black window, type in “ipconfig /all” and press enter, the information of your network adapters will be printed.
  3. Please copy the whole content of this window while contacting us, this information would be more helpful when troubleshooting this issue.

Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

@TP-Link Hi, and thanks for your reply.

UPNP is turned off in Deco app.

The speed I get from the Main Deco is constant, - Approx. 250Mbps both up and down as the screen below shows.
I have tried with other computer as well, but the same result. If I connect directly to the Main Deco, the speed seems to be capped.

I live in a house with thick walls and ceiling, so I have set up 6 M4 in the network.
4 in the first floor. Modem and Main Deco on first floor.
2 in the second floor.

My modem is a Genexis Platinum-7840

Re:Deco M4 capped to 250 Mbps ?

@TP-Link

Hi again.

I had set up some "High Priority" devices under the QoS settings in the App.

After deleting all of them, I now seem to get more correct speed when connected directly to my main Deco.

The strange thing though, is that none of the devices were using internet at the point of my previous testing.

So it seems the Deco App is allocating/saving bandwidth to the High Priority devices even if they are not using any significant internet resources/bandwidth.

Re:Deco M4 capped to 250 Mbps ?

@SpeedyG

Hello, l just wanted to point out that I'm having the exact same problem. I have a contracted 1000 Mbps rate with my service provider and I'm getting ~950 Mbps download at the outlet port on their gateway (as measured with a Cat 6 to my laptop).

If I run a Cat 6 cable directly from the gateway to my TP-Link S4R and then another Cat 6 from the other S4R port to my laptop I'm consistently maxing out at 250 Mbps. That Cat 6 leaving the S4R normally goes to a switch and the other 2 S4Rs in my network so it then limits the wired/wireless download speeds to 250 Mbps for ALL connected devices. I tried to clear all the QoS options in the Deco app, but it didn't change anything. The gateway is a Pace 5268AC and I have the first S4R set up in DMZ (passthrough) mode. I manually set the exit port from the gateway to 1000 Mbps full duplex and then back to Auto with no change. Appreciate any support.

I just upgraded to the 1000 Mbps plan this week from 300 Mbps and I just now realized that I NEVER had S4R speeds above 250 Mbps with the 300 Mbps plan either.

Re:Deco M4 capped to 250 Mbps ?

SOLVED (well, for my setup): Okay, I figured out the problem in my system. I went into the Deco app -> More -> Advanced and changed the Operating Mode from Router (the default) to Access Point.

My wiring was set up as recommended for the Router mode:

- Internet Provider Gateway -> Deco 1 -> Gigabit Switch -> Deco 2 & 3 and other devices

- Deco 1 was set up in DMZ/Pinhole mode in the Gateway, which is as close as I could get to a Passthrough

- I measured the speed at the 2nd Ethernet port leaving Deco 1 and it was never more than 250 Mbps

When I changed the Operating Mode to Access Point, I also removed the DMZ setting in the Gateway, but I didn't change any wiring. The speed on the 2nd Ethernet port leaving Deco 1 increased to ~800 Mbps (1000 Mbps service) and now I'm getting close to 500 Mbps over Wifi from Deco 2. Of course I can't use the QoS or other advanced features anymore in Access Point mode.

Just to confirm, I temporarily switched the Operating Mode back to Router as a test (did not add DMZ setting in Gateway), and my WiFi speed dropped back to ~242 Mbps, where it was before when the wired speed was limited to 250 Mbps. I don't understand why Router mode causes this cap, but I have verified it is the problem. Maybe a future firmware update will fix this?

I plan to add a 2nd switch to better separate the Gateway and Deco networks and will test again. I'll post again if anything changes

@SpeedyG

i still with this problem, but i can't change mode to access point, because deco is my router and I need use PPoE to connect with the internet by my internet provider. How can I fix it? With cat6 from deco justo provide 250mps

I have exactly the same problem, I tried to remove the list of device in the QoS settings but I have an error "Try late...", someone got the same problem ?

  @Vol28 thank you this solved my problem, I was capping at 250 Mbps even though my plan was 600 mbps
