This is curiosity rather than an issue.

When the device is set up as a pure modem does it matter which ethernet port the connected computer will be attached to?

If two computers were to be connected to the ethernet ports what would be the effect on each device?

Hi, it does not matter which Ethernet port is connected to the computer;

but if you want two PCs to get internet service from 9970 when it is on the bridge mode, you might need to require two pairs of username and password for each device;
