Slow Wireless speed on VR600 V2
Slow Wireless speed on VR600 V2
Hello, I currently have a 100 Mbps down connection from my ISP which I used to receive fully through Ethernet and Wifi back when I first bought this router, nowadays I'm receiving the same speed on Ethernet but Wifi has become significantly slower at around 40 Mbps on 5 GHz and even lower on 2.4 GHz, what's even weirder is that I recently bought an RE200 V4 extender and connected it a as an access point with Ethernet to my main router and it's actually receiving the same speed which I used to get with wireless before issues started happening (around 90 Mbps) so my extender now has faster speeds than my main router, can I know if there's a solution for this?
I also wanted to request if OneMesh could be added to VR600 V2 as the hardware seems to be capable of using it.

Hello, after a while of just using 2.4 GHz since it didn't have the speed problem, I managed to find the solution, apparently I had Access Control enabled but no settings were set in it so I decided to disable it today and that seemed to be the thing causing the issue, even though no specific settings were set in it, it was just enabled.
I'm posting about this In case anyone has the same problem and this could also be the solution for them.

Hi, I noticed that there is a new firmware and maybe you could update to the latest firmware first:
Archer VR600(EU)_V2_200226
https://www.tp-link.com/eg/support/download/archer-vr600/v2/#Firmware
By the way, have you checked the wireless link speed when connecting to the 5ghz of VR600?
Please also try to change the wireless channel to be 165 or 48 for 5ghz.
And may I know how long have you had the modem and when did this issue start?

@TP-Link Hello, thank you for your response.
I've managed to fix the speed issue on 2.4 GHz by changing the router and antenna position but 5 GHz still remains unsolved even after the firmware update.
Would you know the solution to this?
I bought this router in mid-2020 but unfortunately I can't recall when this issue started happening.
I also made my 5 GHz on channel 48 and tried all the channel widths but the issue hasn't gotten fixed.

Hi, what are the speed from 5ghz and 2.4ghz now?
Could you please send me some pictures of the speed test on the 5ghz and please also check the wireless link speed as well?

Hi, I noticed that the 5ghz link speed on the device is only 150m/s, which is quite slow.
Did all your mobile devices have a slow link speed when connecting to 5ghz of VR600? And have you connected the same device to the 5ghz of RE200 and check the link speed on it?

Hello, thank you for your response.
I've just tested the link speed on the 5 GHz of the RE200 and it's also 150 Mbps like the main router but the speed is significantly higher on the RE200 at around 86 Mbps.
And yes, all my devices have the same speed and link speed when on the 5 GHz of the VR600.

Hi, would you please download the Wi-Fi analyzer and check which channel is best and clear for VR600?
As for the Wi-Fi bandwidth, please temporarily change to be 20mhz; and change the transmit power to high as well.
By the way, did you have any smart home devices which use 5ghz for communication?

Hello, thank you for your response.
I've downloaded WiFi Analyzer and since none of my neighbors have 5 GHz, there wasn't any interference and all the channels were max rated so I set the channel to the max I can (48).
I've also tried all the channel widths.
None of these modifications seemed to fix the speed issue unfortunately.
And no, I don't have any smart home devices.
Could this be an issue from the firmware by any chance? since I used to get the full speed on 5 GHz when I first bought it and now I just don't.

Hi, I tend to think it might be something wrong with the 5ghz hardware of the VR600.
If it is still under warranty, it is suggested you could replace it first.
Thank you very much.

Hello, thank you for your response.
That's unfortunate, and I dont believe the router is under warranty anymore but I'll see what I can do about it.
Thank you very much for your help.
