Model: Deco
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

The initial plan of the Deco Whole Mesh system is to configure via Deco APP as we hope to provide a super-easy installation and non-high tech required experience.

Due to this commitment, Deco APP allows us to quickly and easily install Mesh Wi-Fi System by just following the step-by-step set-up wizard. Some users commented, ”This thing literally holds your hand through the full setup. 99% of people will hit next, next, next, and you are on the internet” which is just what we want.

Next, Deco App allows monitoring the home Wi-Fi from anywhere without bringing a laptop and making changes right from your smartphone or tablet. So as long as taking your smartphone with you, the home network activity is under your control.

Then, with a few taps on the APP, the advanced features, like Parental Control, Port Forwarding, and QoS are ready to go.

Moreover, when it comes to firmware upgrades, the Deco APP will automatically push a message when new firmware is ready. All you need to do is click “Update Deco”.

While, with the time going on, we gradually received some feedback that users hope Deco could be configured via web UI or more advanced features could be configured on the web interface. Unfortunately, there has been no plan to add these features yet.

But we are open to any feedback and would be appreciated it if you could let us know why you prefer web configuration to APP setup. So we would collect more brilliant ideas which might be taken into consideration along with the future APP upgrade.

Thank you very much for your attention and please feel free to comment below.

Unfortunately, I'm only reading this after I've already purchased the router. I assumed it would have a decent web interface. Setting it up via the app on a small phone screen is difficult and lacks clarity. The minimal settings available with the TP-Link, compared to my previous Asus router, disappoint me.

Return it if possible.

What everyone here has come to understand that tplink does not care what customers want, need or desire.

Everything tplink that we own is glitchy if it works at all.

Drops connections, hard to reconnect, the app is dismal.

While the app does indeed make the average user experience easy and require less expertise in basic network setup. The web UI is not something to be overlooked. Yes, you have provided the WebUI, however it is stripped down from even the most basic things any power user would need. And it doesn't make sense, since experienced users are the ones who usually configure these devices through the WebUI. Less-experienced users would be happy with the app and maybe if they decide to expand their knowledge on networking, they'd try the WebUI... Except in this case, they'd get bad impressions of this brand's WebUI development (On your Archer routers, the WebUI is exceptional and is one of my main reasons I choose TP-Link routers) There's also the problem where there is no desktop app. The matter of expertise doesn't apply to this. Anyone who owns a computer would appreciate it if they didn't have to switch to their phone just to edit their configuration, the experience will simply stop becoming seamless. I do appreciate the Deco app having more settings available, compared to the previous apps. But I don't appreciate that this happened at the expense of the WebUI settings.

@jm-p  The app is CRAP! Spyware that is monitoring everything you do with no opt out.

I got a new mesh router set and looking at this lack of wed ui, i am thinking of returning it. If you don't even listen to your customers, how can I trust you to keep my network safe .. what if you are evesdropping on my home devices !!

I've relegated my deco x95's to dumb access points now... I use another router as my primary with its web interface.

but im the same, i will not purchase TPLink network products in the future...

While up util now I suffered from the missing web interface but still managed to live without it, today I sworn I will never ever in my life touch a TP-LINK product, ever. Today my ISP did some configuration changes and announced me I have to reconnect via PPPOE using a new password. Guess what, because I was disconnected from the internet i had no way to make any changes in my routers anymore, i was completely locked out of them. I had to reset router and lost all the configuration, VPNs data loosing connectivity with all my VPN clients. All this because no web interface accesible from LAN. Good hardware but hardware by itself is useless. I came here to express my frustration and my promise: never in my entire life TPLINK. Already ordered a new mesh for a vendor that respects it's customers. Good ridance my DECO55s!

It's less usable and less secure to manage the router over WiFi than over a wired connection. For better security it's best to have an option to only allow configuration over a wired connection rather than WiFi, although for ease of initial setup WiFi can be enabled. Forcing a specific MobileApp instead of a common WebUI is a deal-breaker. This WiFi router came with my ISP subscription but I'll use a different one until the X50 has a common WebUI available.

I can only echo what so many others have stated. I bought a couple of the XE75s looking for an affordable mesh router, and I've been reasonably happy with the hardware, but it is really a shame that users are required to use smart phone app to do any real configuration of the network. I would really appreciate a legitimate web browser option. tplinkdeco.net isn't really worthwile.
