  @Milleniumaire

My first TP110M just arrived. Installed it in a plug for app configuration. All went super smooth.

Pressed on/off on the app and heard an audible click each time.

So I went to install it on the lamps it should power....stays on whatever I do. New product fresh out of the box.

Will give it a shake and keep ya'll updated.

Still not working, if I plug in a basic lamp and press the side button, the lamp always stays on.

Will have to return it I'm afraid.

Where did you buy the product? Was it from an official store/authorized retailer or an individual seller?  TP-Link - Where To Buy

Was it a brand-new product? Do you notice if there is anything unusual about the product packaging?

  @Wayne-TP  This earlier fix just worked for me. Had to press between 10 and 20 times before it sprang back to life though!

As above, so following others:

I unplugged the P110 and clicked the side button a few times. Then I tapped the unit on my desk (not softly, nor destructively hard either). I clicked it on and off, and it made a bigger click than before. Plugged it back in again, now working.

Does this qualify me as a hardware engineer?

Sometimes, if the connected device draws more power than the plug can handle, it might malfunction.

So had this issue on P110 which we had received free from our electricity supplier and having read all the comments, like giving it a bit of a bash it made no difference. But then decided to keep pressing the button on the side repeatedly (mainly through frustration) and then it started working again. Not sure how long it will last but I'll take it working now.

Hey everyone, same problems here.

I have 3 plugs, all new from Amazon, each seems to fail at some point.

Have broke one because was annoyed and pushed too hard on the floor, but it's the only way to make it work again ;)

  @ThierryV

I was hoping the newer P110M models (vs older P110) might be a better batch... I have 16 plugs and about half are the "M" versions now and none of those have failed so far... the oldest "M" would be about 7 months now. About 6 of my original P110 plugs failed with the click of death between about 4 and 8 months old.

I 'fixed' my latest failure in pretty much the same way.  I'd told Google Assistant to turn the plug off and all I got was a click.  This was after probably about 6-8 months of use.  I opened the Tapo app on my phone to view the status. After turning the plug on and off a few times on the app without any change in power delivery, I got annoyed and repeatedly hit the power button in the app really quickly.  To my surprise, after about 20 taps the power suddenly went off.  I checked it a few times and the plug was behaving again! That was about a month ago and the the plug has worked flawlessly since.

I've no doubt it will fail again and probably soon. I'm on the third one now that manages my media/entertainment devices - TV, AV amp, media player and Nintendo Switch dock - powered through the P110 and a dumb power strip. I usually power everything on in the evening, then off when I go to bed, with a scheduled 'power off at 2am', just in case I forget. So it gets fairly high volume use.  But I'd expect the plugs to last longer than the 6-12 months I'm currently seeing.

From the behavior and the way the plugs can be fixed, I suspect the issue is the relay mentiioned in the post linked below.  Considering th cost of the P110, it's not really acceptable.

Tapo P110 need to replace relay Churod A16-V105DA2F
