Works fine if I'm 10cm from the router, put the plug anywhere else and it won't connect to wifi. So this is in a room where phones and laptops are all connected fine, but not this plug. It had an option to setup via bluetooth in the app, but that wouldn't work either. Any ideas or is it just poorly made? When it's working sat next to the router, the app says the firmware is up to date: 1.2.3 Build230425 Rel.142542 The box it came in actually had two plugs, neither work, same problem on both.

Please specify the problem you're encountering.

 

Did you fail to configure the smart plug? What's the error message? What should I do if I fail to configure the Tapo Smart Plug?

 

Or are you suggesting the smart plug will disconnect from wifi if it's more than 10cm away from the router? What's its LED status when it happens? 

 

What's the model of your router? Does it have a separate 2.4GHz WiFi?

1. Plugged in next to the router, go through setup, all works fine. 

2. Unplug and plug in at another socket in the same room as the router, all works fine.

3. Move to the room next door where I actually need the plug and it doesn't work. I can press on/off in the app, no error message, plug just doesn't respond.

4. Restart the whole setup in the room I need it, doesn't pair at the end, phone says "pairing your tapo device" for ages then fails "pairing failed - try again?", it never works.

Restart the WiFi router and pair the smart plug again.

 

Make a comparison test by connecting the smart plug to the Guest WiFi or a hotspot (a phone as the hotspot and another phone for configuration).
