TAPO P110 Plugs UNFIT FOR PURPOSE
TAPO P110 Plugs UNFIT FOR PURPOSE

I have purchased 10 P110 Plugs with Energy Management over the last 6 months and so far I have had 4 go faulty. Three have been returned to TP-Link and replacements sent (in one case the original was returned ..I guess with some sort of reset) . The problems are with the internal relays , switching on and off repeatedly. This is likely to cause damage to any sensitive equipment attached and in my case cause food in my freezer to be wasted. I get asked stupid questions about load on the plugs when I report faults . There's not much point putting energy management on a device that draws a few milliamps . After all they are rated 13 amp 240 volts therefore Watts=VoltsxAmps=13*240=3kW ... None of my devices are rated over 2Kw.
I've used KASA plugs (with and without Energy Management) for years , and never had an issue with them. They have NEVER failed ... but these TAPO P110 fail all the time with dissasterous consequences .
What are other peoples experiences with TAPO P110 ?

@keithh Yes I find that if you actually USE the relay in P100 or P110s they fail with horrible regularity.
The 10 or so I use have about a 10-15% fail rate per year. The ones that are always turned on and never change, just monitoring, never fail.

Thank you. It looks like I'm not the only one.
I use a P110 to switch on and off my computer remotely, which means it switches on and off at least twice a day, and it's been failing since yesterday. If you can't switch on and off a device that it's supposed to be switched on an off, what's the point?
I guess it's time to change brands then.

I've had many P110 plugs fail... but so far only from early stock from 2 years ago... I suspect they have rectified the problem in more recent supplies.
To further make sure I get "fresh" newer stock, I have only bought the P110M models (matter compatible) in the last year and so far, no failures of the P110M specifically.
It's a great plug with lots of features for the money, and the only Tapo product to cause me troubles (i have a LOT of Tapo stuff).
I would suggest you return your faulty P110 plugs like I did, and then pay in a bit extra, like I did, by replacing them with P110M plugs.
I hope that works out for you.
