Troubleshooting Deco X50-5G Randomly Freeze / Internet Unstable

This Article Applied to
Deco X50-5G_V1/V2
For Deco X50-5G_V1, please make sure the firmware is up-to-date: Deco X50-5G_V1_1.2.1 Official Now Available for Installation!
For Deco X50-5G_V2, please test whether the 1.0.1 firmware here helps: Enhance the Overall 5G network stability for Deco X50-5G_V2
Phenomenon Description:
1. Deco X50-5G randomly turned red then the internet stopped. Users might need to restart/reset to temporarily restore the internet connection.
2. Deco X50-5G remained solid white but all devices randomly lost internet connection.
* Some carriers use 5G NSA(It refers to an option of 5G NR deployment that depends on the control plane of an existing 4G LTE network for control functions). So sometimes the Deco LED is white when the Band is one of the 4G bands(such as B1/B3) but the network type is 5G.
Suggestions:
Feedback regarding 5G router instability from various brands can be found online, which is not dedicated to a single brand. And the 5G network stability is closely related to the current cell network status and the location of the 5G router. The causes of instability differ among SIM carriers, adding complexity to finding a universal solution. Our engineers are actively exploring various approaches and working with SIM carriers to resolve this issue.
The following suggestions are consolidated from previous feedback, aimed at enhancing 5G stability.
- Please make sure the Deco X50-5G is up-to-date.
- Confirm the 5G SIM card is PIN Free.
*In some cases, once restarting the 5G router, the SIM Card status turns to "PIN Locked". If possible, please contact the SIM carrier to unlock the SIM card permanently.
- Switch the Carrier from "Auto" to the specific ISP Profile.
For example, on the Deco APP, please Switch the Carrier from "Auto" to "O2".
If there is no preset ISP profile, please try to create your own APN Profile and manually add the APN details of the SIM carrier.

- Set a daily reboot schedule.
- If possible, add external 5G antennas on the 5G router >>How to install 5G external antennas on Deco
If the 5G router still frequently drops out, you could contact Technical support with the following details to get further assistance:
- Your location and the SIM carrier.

I have no words on how much in beyond frustration with this product. One year ago I spent 300 euros on something that continuously disconnect itself or drops WiFi all together. This is not only unfair it's unbelievable. No firmware update fixes the problem. No new hardware version to customer. No refund. No different product. N O T H I N G. I'll never buy a tp-link product again.

@Eid4n Exactly. I waited more than a year for a proper fix, giving evidences and screenshots about how the RAM and CPU usage kept spiking to max. And how the fixes they released "false throttled" the readings everytime users have a look at the RAM and CPU usage. The very next fix? They remove the RAM and CPU usage page to cover up.
Absolutely gave up.

It doesn't matter V1 or V2; it keeps crashing. I've been having this problem for over two years now. I keep sending my devices back (three times) and getting new ones with exactly the same problems. It is stable on 4G, but if I switch to 5G, a red light comes on randomly, and only a manual restart brings it back to life for a while. I've tried everything; I mean EVERYTHING. Nothing has helped. I have an X50 5G connected to an external antenna and an X50 outdoor mesh. This is just sad. So many people all around the world have exactly the same problem...

Since there are no official fix for TP-link (my first and last product to buy) I have created a workaround to monitor the router with python and selenium.
You may need:
- A PC / raspberry pi that is on 24-7 connected to your wifi
- Write your password on a txt file and chmod it (for security)
What it does:
- Monitor if your internet is down at an interval (via google.com)
- Once down it will proceed to router page and restart
- Restart time will take approximately 1 - 2 minutes (same goes to your internet)
Do note that this is a simple program works on my version of router page of X50 - 5G.
Checkout here: GitHub - kranechan/decorestart: Auto restart TP-link Deco X50 5g upon lost of internet connection using selenium and raspberry-pi
Read about it in the Readme.md it has all the instruction on how to make it work.
My experience of downtime monitoring:
- Ranges from few hours (3 hours) to few days (longest was 8 days 8 hours)

Hi, may I know your SIM carrier?
If all three brand-new Deco X50-5Gs had the same behavior, it is very likely that the issue is not only related to X50-5G.
If you would like to spend a little more time, you can send an email tosupport.forum@tp-link.com with the following details:
Subject: [Forum Escalation][ID 657816] Deco X50-5G unstable 5G network
- A screenshot of the internet settings when Deco X50-5G was red: the current 5G network bands, and if there is a valid IPV4 address
- A copy of the web UI system log.Deco web interface login
- How often would Deco X50-5G turn red, multiple times per day?
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

@Zickey Don't bother. This router is trash. Issue is not related to SIM carrier. Just buy different router than TP Link.

From more than 2 weeks I am testing firmware 1.3.0 and for me it looks promissing:
https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/837924
For some people it caused many problems but for me it is much better than older firmware.
I have seen maybe 2-3 restarts from that time comparing to few restarts per day on old firmware.
However, be aware this firmware doesn't allow for downgrade to older one(I didn't try, but it was in the description of this new firmware).
I had nothing to loose because my frustration was also big and I already wanted to throw away this piece of s**t. In the last moment I found post with new firmware so I decided to upgrade and test it.
