Model: Archer AX80
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 231201

Hi All,

A New Firmware has been released for the Archer AX80(US/CA) V1: 1.1.1 Build 20231201

This update brings significant improvements to the USB read and write performance, enhancing the overall user experience.

New Features/Enhancements

  1. Optimized the L2TP/IPsec VPN performance;

  2. Enhanced USB sharing performance;

  3. Optimized system stability.

Firmware Update

To update the firmware, you have two options:

  • Utilize the online update feature through the Tether App/Web UI.
  • Download the firmware from the TP-Link official website and upgrade it manually through the Web UI.

Case Sharing

To showcase the performance of the latest firmware, we conducted a performance test with the following setup:

  1. We connected a USB solid-state drive (SSD) to the USB port of the AX80 router.
  2. A PC with a 2.5G LAN network adapter was connected to the AX80 2.5G LAN port.
  3. Using Samba file sharing, we performed a CrystalDiskMark test on the PC.

The results were impressive, with read speeds of up to 290MB/s and write speeds of approximately 120MB/s, representing a substantial upgrade.

Specifically, the read speed for a single 5GB movie file was an impressive 280MB/s.

Notes:

  • The Archer AX80 router features a single 2.5G port that supports speeds beyond 1Gbps. To test the Samba shared folder read and write performance, we recommend switching the 2.5G port to the LAN port and utilizing CrystalDiskMark on your 2.5G LAN PC.
  • Enabling QoS may impact the USB read and write performance. If the performance does not meet your expectations, we suggest temporarily disabling the QoS feature.

We would like to gather additional feedback on the new USB optimization to ensure compatibility and stability. Therefore, we kindly request our community members to participate in the dedicated forum discussion for the firmware version 1.1.1 Build 20231201.

Your valuable feedback and participation in this discussion are greatly appreciated. Your input will help us ensure the best possible performance, compatibility, and stability for all our users.

Thank you for being a part of our community!

  @Sunshine

I fully agree!
Optimization works great!

Particularly important, in my opinion, is the improvement in random access speed by two to three times (third line of results in your screenshot)

But in addition to the AX80 RU (this is almost the same as the US), I also have the AX80 EU (vertical housing) - there, as I see, this patch has not yet been applied, although the firmware update 1.1.2 Build 20240126 has been released.
I would really like to get this patch for the EU version.

Thanks!!!

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

You are correct, the EU version firmware of AX80 V1 has not incorporated this optimization yet, you may pay attention to any new firmware release on your EU version device.

The latest firmware update for the Archer AX80 router (US/CA) version 1.1.1 Build 231201 brings some notable enhancements to the USB read and write speeds. This upgrade should greatly improve the overall user experience for those utilizing USB storage with their routers.

Speaking of enhancements, have you ever considered tweaking your Minecraft experience? You might want to think about installing a Shield mod. It could really change up your gameplay, adding a whole new layer of strategy and protection. It's definitely worth a visit to see what's out there for downloads in the Minecraft modding community.
