Windows lists the apparent WiFi 5 adapter as WiFi 3 and gives sh*t speeds and ping too. I'm using the latest firmware from TP-Link, Tried using the firmware from the included disk, and still nothing.

The "Wi-Fi 3" shown in your screenshot just means that you've had two other Wi-Fi adapters installed on this particular computer before. That number counts up by one every time a new Wi-Fi card is installed.
To see the Wi-Fi standard in use for the present Wi-Fi connection click on "[SSID] Properties" and there it should read "Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)", provided you are connected to a 802.11ac-capable router.
What are the actual numbers for speed and ping?
Remember that especially the speed decreases substantially as the distance between the T3U Plus and the Wi-Fi router or AP increases.
