We are excited to announce our partnership with Fing to introduce a new client recognition feature in upcoming firmware updates for select Wi-Fi 7 Archer Router and Deco models. This feature enhances the accuracy of identifying devices on your network, making network management easier and more effective.

What is Fing Client Recognition?

The new client recognition feature leverages Fing’s SDK (Software Development Kit) to provide detailed information about the devices connected to your network. It works by collecting network data such as MAC addresses and hostnames via protocols like DHCP, NetBIOS, mDNS, and HTTP. Fing processes this data and identifies the device type, brand, and model, then returns the results to the router.

Note: You may have already seen the option to enable this feature on your device. In the Web UI of Archer Routers, it is listed as Authorize Third-Party Services in Advanced > System > Authorize Third-Party Services.

How Does Fing Client Recognition Benefit You?

  • Accurate device identification: Know exactly what devices are connected to your network, whether smartphones, laptops, gaming consoles, or IoT devices.
  • Simplified network management: Detailed information on each device lets you manage your network more efficiently and accurately, from prioritizing traffic to implementing effective Parental Controls.
  • Tailored troubleshooting: With specific device data, we can offer more in-depth support and solutions tailored to the device type, leading to a smoother experience.

Privacy and Security

We understand that your privacy is paramount. Rest assured that all collected data, including MAC addresses and other network identifiers, is handled securely and in strict compliance with data protection regulations.

Coming Soon

Stay tuned for the upcoming firmware releases, and take advantage of enhanced device recognition on your Archer Routers and Deco models. This new feature will make managing your home network simpler, more secure, and more intuitive.

@ABC_ChoCo

The Fing Integration feature will be gradually rolled out to most routers and Decos to enhance device identification accuracy on your network.

You may see a note like the following when the firmware adds this new feature:

Hi Kevin,

Would it be possible for you to post a screenshot that shows where and how this information is shown?

I've now enabled "Client Identification" under "Authorize Third-Party Services" on my router, but I have the feeling that the list of clients looks the same as it did before. I see no difference.

Hello @woozle, thanks for asking.

There won't be a significant difference in the Client List display before and after enabling "Client Identification". This feature simply enhances the accuracy of identifying the devices connected to the network. If there are no differences in the client lists after enabling it on the router, that means the previous firmware has done it right.laugh

BTW, what's the model number of your TP-Link device? If there are any client devices not being identified correctly, or you find something is abnormal, please let me know and we will try to figure it out.

Ok, I understand. Thanks.

My router is an Archer AXE75 V1. It is not mentioned in the firmware notes, but Client Identification was added in firmware version 1.3.0.
