Network numeric passwords blocked
Around one month ago I bought a set of tp-link Deco S7 mesh units, and installed them in my house using the same network name and password of an old repeaters from another brand. Setup was easy, and I could use the same password of the previous network with only numbers, to avoid the need of reconfiguring all my devices. I was happy with the results, the network signal and speed were much better than when using old repeaters, and all devices reconnected automatically.
Yesterday I reset the S7 units and tried to reconfigure them to another network name and password. For my surprise, the app did not allowed me to use a password with only numbers, it requested letters and special characters as mandatory. I could not even set the units back to the previous network name and password that I initially configured, because of this limitation.
So, is there a way to set a network password with only numbers in S7 mesh units, to avoid needing to reconfigure all my wifi switches, tvs, alexas and ther devices to use a new password?
Thank you!

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
Have you tried to delete the Deco APP and install it again?
There are several Deco Mesh networks in the office for regular tests, the wifi passwords are all set to 12345678. I don't think there is any limitation to using numbers only as passwords.
Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi David, thank you for the tip! Unfortunately it did not work...
I removed and reinstalled the tp-link Deco app from my iPad, but the password restriction is still there. See screenshot below.
The current app version installed is 3.8.69, where I see the error. i noticed there was a 3.7.75 version from July 1st, which probably I used it to do my first configuration 1 month ago, and I suspect it doesn't have this password restriction. But 3.7.75 is only available for Android devices, and I have only an iPhone and an iPad. Is there a way to bypass this password restriction in 3.8.69 app?
Thank you!

Hi, Thank you very much for the update.
Can you click the "Feedback" button on the bottom right to help me submit the Deco APP log?
(please make sure you have ticked "Add System Log")
I might also need to consult the senior engineers for more suggestions.
Best regards.

Hello,
I finally could set a numeric password in my Deco 7 network after installing a Deco app version 3.7.75 from July 2024 in an Android tablet. This version does not required any letters or special characters in the network password.
This confirms that the requirement of special characters and letters in the passwords is only in the interface (UI) of latest app versions, not on Deco firmware. And it also explains why I could use a numeric password in my first installation of Deco 7 units, and needed to use special chatacters in the second installation. It was because the app has updated in the meantime.
I would strongly recommend TP-Link to remove this requirement in a new app version, changing it to an advice, so allowing the users to decide and use their current network passwords if only numeric. I liked the range and coverage of my Deco 7, it works very well for my needs. But I will not buy any additional Decos and will not recommend it to others while this limitation persists. Having to use an older app version to configure the product does not seem a good solution.
Thank you,
Dirceu
