Over the past few weeks, there has been some feedback that the Deco VPN Client status consistently shows as "connecting."

After further troubleshooting with the engineers, we have identified several suggestions that have successfully resolved most cases.

1. The incorrect server username and password.

Although Deco APP VPN Client Wizards do not ask for mandatory VPN server credentials, it is suggested to fill in both. These credentials are usually not the same as the dedicated VPN APP login username and password, especially for NordVPN.
How to find the NordVPN server username and password:

2. Extra modification to the OpenVPN config file.

#1 If the Deco is set to connect to CyberGhost VPN, please test the following suggestions:

#2 If the Deco is set to connect NordVPN, please test the following suggestions:

  • If you are using a "NordVPN token" to create a VPN Client connection, please delete the current configuration and try the "Custom" profile to manually upload the OpenVPN config file.
  • Open the OpenVPN config file via Notepad and remove "auth-user-pass".

#3 Deco APP doesn't allow adding an individual CA certificate, so you might need to add the CA to your OVPN File before uploading the VPN config file to Deco.

We will update more suggestions here to address the VPN Client connection issue. If you also figure out any other configurations that might potentially cause the VPN Client failure, please feel free to share your insights in the comments.

Thank you very much!

  @David-TP

Hi David

Be65 user here with Nord sub.

All my nord servers on deco have stopped working today.  I've delete all the udp files.

Downloaded fresh openvpn files, edited them and used the correct log in credentials (not my nord account ones) the optional ones.

I've also just tried the beta app after being on .88 and the problem is still the same.

I've added a screen shot as it just stays attached the connecting screen.

Used the nord vpn app on my tv and android devices and I get immediate connections.

Any ideas why this suddenly happened?

Thanks as always for the hard work and super help.  It really is appreciated

  @Bdbuzz

Hi, As for your Pure VPN issue, can you send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com with the following details:

  • A screenshot of the VPN client status on the Deco APP.
  • A copy of the PureVPN OpenVPN config file.
  • The web UI system log:  Deco web interface login

How to get the system log: Turn off the VPN Client and restart the Deco X10; then enable the OpenVPN client again and upload the PureVPN config file.

Please save the system log when the VPN Client status reports "Connecting" again.

Thank you very much.

Wait for your reply.

  @David-TP

I created accordingly your hints two openvpn-files for two different locations.
In general it works and both locations switch status from connecting to connected - great success 😊

But now I have trouble with the speed, especially of the download.

The speed is very low with 0,06 Mbps and in this case not usable.
Do you have any suggestion to optimize and get a better performance?

  @David_Alex

Hi, sorry for the delay.

I noticed you have updated the Deco X50-5G to the latest version 1.2.1. Does it also help improve the VPN connection speed?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi!

After update no improvement of the VPN connection speed.

Should be improved a lot.
As shown download with VPN @ 0,06 Mbps, without VPN @ 200-250 Mbps.
Upload with VPN and without VPN very similar.

I have a mesh configured with 3 X55 devices, and I've been experiencing the same issue for the last 3 days, even when the VPN is "connected", I can still see my real IP address on whatsmyip. The only workaround I found is rebooting all of them.

That said, I know that all of my VPNs are working (and the issue is on the mesh), because I can use them directly on both my Laptop and Desktop PC.

It would be sad if this is some kind of planned obsolecense, because I'm not going to buy another device of this brand.

Edited to add:

I have 1 OpenVPN config and 2 L2TP connections, which used to work just fine.

  @whashooo

Hi, thank you very much for your time and patience.

Can I have the firmware version of your Deco X55?

"even when the VPN is "connected", I can still see my real IP address on whatsmyip. The only workaround I found is rebooting all of them."

-Do you mean the outgoing IP address on the selected VPN clients only changed(encrypted) after a manual reboot of the devices themselves?

-Can you consistently reproduce this issue on different devices?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
