Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.7.8

I attempted to establish a VPN between two homes

—one using a Deco X50 mesh system and the other using a Deco M5.

The goal was for the M5 to act as a VPN client, connecting to the X50’s VPN server so that both locations share the same internal LAN.
After a firmware update, the M5 appeared to support VPN client mode using L2TP and PPTP.

I enabled L2TP/PPTP on the X50 and configured the M5 to connect accordingly.
However, once connected, the M5 lost internet access.

No advanced security features were enabled on the X50, but the connection still failed.
I'm unsure if this is a configuration issue or a limitation of the M5.

@TimmyLin Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

I remember Deco M5 doesn't support VPN Server/Client features.

"After a firmware update, the M5 appeared to support VPN client mode using L2TP and PPTP."

Do you refer to "L2TP/PPTP" under the Internet connection type?

  • If not, can I have a screenshot of the VPN client configuration on your Deco?
  • If you indeed talk about the  "L2TP/PPTP" internet connection, it mainly refers to the hardware WAN broadband connection

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

David-TP Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I am using L2TP/PPTP under the Internet connection type; and now I get your point.

It seems like I can only upgrade my hardware to have the feature.
