I am having an issue with how Deco Parental Control works which is allowing my kids to bypass any restriction I put for their devices.

I have assigned my kids devices to a "Kids" profile, in order to be able to control access time ...etc. However, since all new phones and tablets now supports "Random MAC addresses", my kids will remove the wifi network from their devices, then connect to it again and their devices will default to using a random mac address, and since those will be seen by Deco as new devices it will not assign them to any profile which means there is no access restriction!

Prior to owning the Deco I used to have another brand, and they have a simple feature which is a "default profile", all new joined devices are member of that profile. So I set the rules on that profile to block all traffic (no internet) and when a new device joins my network I move it manually from the default to the correct profile. So if my kids tries to reconnect with a new MAC address they will not have internet and I will be able to detect that and fix it. Also if babysitters, strangers, (hackers) managed to get my password (e.g. by sharing the password QR-Code from android and IOS devices) they will be blocked by default.

I see this as a simple yet very important feature that is missing from the current system.

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

Can I have the model number and firmware of your Deco?

Some Deco models have added "WiFi Access Control" that users could pre-set the allowed MAC address:

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP Thanks for the reply David,

I have the Deco XE75, and there is no "Wi-Fi Access Control" in the Security tab.

Firmware: 1.2.14 Build 20241015 Rel. 45922

Hi  @David-TP

I just checked with my brother who bought his after I recommended it to him. He got the same exact model but his firmware is on version 1.4.x (forgot the exact version) and he has the "WiFi Access Control" feature, while mine is still on 1.2.14 and says it is up to date.

How can I enable that feature?

  @Fahad6

Hi, thanks for the update.

I think your brother might have Deco XE75_V1, and the latest firmware for V1 is 1.4.5, which supports "WiFi Access Control".

While for V2,  it might still take a while to have a new firmware to support "WiFi Access Control".

Best regards.

Hi, can I have the firmware version of your Deco X20 and Deco X50?

For some models, they supported "WiFi Access Control", and you will get a notification when a new device tries to connect to Deco:

Best regards.

  @Fahad6 My deco versions are

x55: 1.6.7 Build 25031412 Rel 48241

x20: 1.2.5 Build 20240720 Rel 66739

My deco app does not show the Wi-Fi access control option

Hi, thanks for the update.

Deco X20 might be the problem, and the firmware 1.2.5 here hasn't added "WiFi Access Control".

Best regards.

  @Fahad6 Did you find a solution? I just discovered that parental controls are useless if the user can just enable randomized MAC address. The latest firmware for my XE75 is 1.3.0 and still doesn't support the "Wi-Fi Access Control" feature.

  @David-TP How do I confirm which version is my XE75? I assume I have the same V2 as OP since I also don't see a "Wi-Fi Access Control" option even with my latest v1.3.0 firmware. So this means im also out of luck and can't use parental controls since there's an easy way to bypass that with a randomized MAC address.

It's been 5 months and you guys still haven't released an update for V2? If the two versions are so different, then you should advertise which version it is on the official PRODUCT NAME (such as XE75-v2) instead of making it a secret, like not knowing what version I would get and hope to hit the "jackp0t"!

I bought 4 of XE75 based on some software features that I looked up and read that it supports, only to discover that all of those features aren't available to me and would probably be available in future updates (IF that happens, so it's not even confirmed). This is false advertisement 101 and im thinking of returning them.
