Model: Deco BE65
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.16 Build 20250220 Rel 28737

I got myself a BE65 3 unit mesh system to replace my aging single Wifi access point.   I have an Opnsense router that I need to continue using for various reasons, one being that the Deco is nowhere near configurable enough to be my main router.
The first thing i did after setting it up was turn off DHCP and put it in Access Point mode, so far so good.    Several hours later of nothing 2.4Ghz being able to connect I tried putting them on a guest network and found that ANY 2.4Ghz network is entirely unusable and unstable in Access Point mode.  2 Mbps on at 1Gbps connection.
I then changed the mode to Wi-Fi Router and suddenly 2.4Ghz is usable and actually fantastic, however it is entirely impossible despite many hours of frigging around to route from the wifi network that it creates to my LAN network.
I then got it to establish a OpenVPN link to a new interface on the main router, however no matter what I tried the Deco never sent packets back over the VPN link to the router.
If anyone  has a bright idea I havent't thought of let me know before I punt this thing back through the shop window it came from.

  @FrustratedD

Hi, welcome to the community.

It is suggested to test the 1.1.7 version here to see whether it made any difference:

Enhancing Satellite Deco Network Stability with Deco BE11000/BE63_V2.6_1.1.7

When Deco was in AP mode, were all 2.4GHz bands(Main, Guest/IOT Network) unusable and unstable, ~2mbps?

-If you switch it back to AP mode now, will the same issue happen again?

By the way, did you plan to enable OpenVPN Client on Deco to connect to the VPN Server on the Opnsense router?

- As Opnsense LAN devices share the same IP segment as the WAN IP of Deco, I think the Deco LAN clients are already able to access Opnsense LAN devices even without a VPN connection, but not the other way around.

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi David, the VPN stuff back to Opnsense was me trying to circumvent the limitations of the thing only being functional in Router mode and not AP mode.
It was just an attempt to route between my existing LAN and the wifi network.

Anyway, I put the 1.17 firmware on, hoping for the best and expecting the worst.  I was extremely and pleasantly surpised - subject to a bit more testing the Deco is totally a keeper now.  Everything in the house connected straight away seems to be rock solid and the speeds are great.   Thank you so so much for getting back to me.

Love your work.

@TPLink please give David a payrise!

Dan.

Hi David,
Although vastly improved I'm still having trouble with a few ESP32 based devices on 2.4Ghz.
Do you know if there is a planned release date for the final version of this firmware?

Dan.
