As we know detection zones and motion tracking are not linked and mutually exclusive. The problem as others have said is when the tracking follows someone into a noisy area, outside of what you wanted detected, the camera can just stay there as it's now tracking movement where it is pointing not where it should be pointing. The camera can end up turning all the way round and start staring at a tree in the wind or cars going by for ever and miss the main zone you really wanted covering. I get it's not easy to fully fix this but there is a very simple solution - when the camera has wandered off from its main/normal viewing position just reset the pan and tilt back to normal after a few minutes, even if there is motion, after all you never asked for it to detect motion there in the first place. Whilst this doesn't fully solve the issue it will make the motion tracking very usable. When the camera has followed someone that's great but surely after x mins return it to where it should be, and the detection zones/masking will start working properly again. Right now the motion tracking is completely unusable making pan and tilt totally pointless. Might as well have a fixed camera. Please consider this very simple fix that will make a huge difference.

Hi,
On the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Detection page, please check if you can see the Auto Tracking feature and set it to track a specific event only. For example, if you configured the Tapo camera to track a person only, the tree or cars in the new viewpoint won't trigger the camera to track them, and the camera will turn to the original position after 30 seconds if no person is detected.
Best Regards
