Model: Archer AX55
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.1.2 Build 20241014 rel.59971(5553)

Dear All,

For my application, I need to use 4G/5G router to access internet and connect AX55 to it and to setup VPN Server.

I followed the video/documents from TP-link to try using wireguard first but cannot success. Then I tried to use OpenVpn. However I cannot use PC or Mobile to connect to VPN Server for both case.

I am wondering whether I need to set same DHCP value for both 4G router and AX55 or not?

The IP displayed in AX55 page is private IP but not Public IP. So there maybe something wrong?

I tried to change Server address in config file to private IP, Public IP (from what is ip website) and DDNS from TP-Link but still doesn't work.

And do I need to setup Port forwarding or triggering?

Thank you in advance!

Hello@mwtx ,

Welcome to our community.

Usually 4G/5G networks use CGNAT, so you need to apply for or upgrade the service to obtain a public IP.

Then you can set up Port forwarding on the main router. Forwarding rules: forward the port used by the VPN service (such as OpenVPN default TCP 1194) to the intranet IP of the sub-router (such as 192.168.1.100).

For example:
External port: 1194
Internal IP: 192.168.1.100
Internal port: 1194
Protocol: TCP/UDP (select according to the VPN protocol)

Finally, set up the VPN server on the second router.

Hi Joseph, Thank you for your quick response! I will try to talk with service provider first but normally cannot be done without paying extra fee. haha~
