My multiple Deco X50 setup is causing problems with seamless mesh transitions.
I've set up a network with 3 Deco X50 units and one Deco X50 Outdoor. I installed them close together at first, ran the latest firmware updates, and then spread them out across the house. They are all connected via LAN cable, and the distances between each Deco unit aren't very large.
The Deco in my meter cabinet is connected directly behind the ONT, so it also acts as the modem for my 400 Mbps fiber connection.
All the Decos are part of a mesh network, which was the whole point. In my previous setup, I often had issues where devices (like mobile phones) would stick to one access point for too long. This caused them to lose connection briefly when switching to a different, closer AP with a stronger signal.
I was told that this would be much better with the Deco mesh system. But unfortunately, I still get frequent messages on my phone saying that my Wi-Fi has no internet, especially when I move around the house. Meanwhile, the internet connection itself is stable. When I test the speed, it’s either perfectly fine — with similar upload and download speeds — or it’s absolutely terrible. In those cases, the download is usually still okay (between 120 and 25 mbit), but the upload is ridiculously low — I’m talking 5 or 6 Mbps!
Does anyone recognize this issue? Is there a setting I can change? How do I actually get the seamless mesh experience I was promised?
Easy Mesh is turned on, should I disable it???
I’ve already disabled randomized MAC addresses on two mobile phones, but that hasn’t improved anything...
My setup is as follows:
The main Deco X50 is in the meter cabinet, directly behind an ONT (fiber).
Connected directly to this Deco is an unmanaged TP-Link switch, which then connects via Ethernet to a second Deco X50.
Also in the meter cabinet, from the main Deco X50, there's another Ethernet cable going to an unmanaged TP-Link switch that connects another (second) Deco X50 via cable (this one, like all the others, was only wired after the initial boot-up, mesh formation, and installation were complete).
From that same unmanaged TP-Link switch, a second cable runs to a third Deco X50. This one is also behind another unmanaged TP-Link switch.
Two PCs are connected via Ethernet to that third Deco. Both have fast and stable internet.
Also in the meter cabinet, another Ethernet cable runs from the same switch I mentioned to a TP-Link powerline adapter. The electrical line goes directly to my shed, where I pick up the internet signal using another TP-Link powerline adapter. This second adapter is not acting as an access point (Wi-Fi is disabled), and a Deco X50 Outdoor is connected to it via Ethernet.
Overall, there’s no issue with the wired connections. All access points have stable and fast internet. The only problem is when devices move through the house — that’s when connection issues occur.
