I thought this would be simple, but it isn't.

 

First, I had trouble locating the Archer VR600 support page because of regional variation, but I did eventually find it here:

I downloaded the latest version of the USB_Printer_Controller_Utility_Mac published 2022-02-21.

 

But I get this on trying to install it.

 

So this utility doesn't work, and I cannot connect my printer to the home network.

 

Reinstalling makes no difference. The software is old or broken.

 

What to do? Who to contact? Is there a workaround?

As Terziyski said, VR600 v3 doesn't support USB printer feature.

You can refer to How to configure Printer Sharing on AC VDSL/ADSL Modem Router (new logo), this article applies to: Archer VR1200v , Archer VR900( V3 ) , Archer VR1210v , TD-W9960v , Archer VR2100v , Archer VR2600v , Archer VR900v , Archer VR2800v( V1 ) , Archer VR600v , Archer VR400( V2 ) , Archer VR600( V2 ) , Archer VR2800( V1 )

 

If your modem is new, you may consider replacing it with one of the above models.

Update your VR600 FW to the latest release from here.

It seems that VR600 v3 doesn't support USB printer feature - check Chapter 9 from its user guide - here.
