Model: Deco X50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.6.7 Build 25031412 Rel. 48241

Hi,

I want to set up a Deco X50 network at our church.  I want to have a separate network for official devices (e.g. computer, mixing desk, TV, photocopier etc.) and a guest network for visitors to the church to use.  That's pretty straightforward with the X50, but one of the devices on the main network will be our photocopier.  I want people on the guest network to also be able to print to that device, but I think that's not possible because the guest network is isolated.

Is there a way to allow a device to be shared between the main and guest network?  Or could I use the IoT network for guests instead as a workaround (albeit I couldn't then restrict bandwidth usage).

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Dave

Hi, welcome to the community.

As the IoT network is not isolated from the Main network, the connected devices can access the photocopier on the Main Network.

For more details, please refer to Guest Network vs IoT Network vs Device Isolation

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Thanks David.  So our choice is either:

  • Use the Guest Network and have bandwidth restrictions but the photocopier won't be accessible to people on that, or
  • Use the IoT network but then I can't restrict the bandwidth available.

Is that correct?

Yes.

Although you can't limit the bandwidth of the IOT network, I remember Deco X50_V1 supports "Speed Limit" for individual devices:
