Hello,

I am experiencing a recurring issue with my Deco X50-PoE mesh system (all units running firmware 1.5.0, backhaul via Ethernet).

  • When a client roams from one AP to another (for example with a laptop or smartphone moving between floors), the Wi-Fi connection stays associated, but the client fails to obtain an IPv4 address (only link-local IPv6).

  • Disconnecting/reconnecting to Wi-Fi does not always help. The only way to recover is to “forget the network” on the client and reconnect, which forces a new DHCP discovery.

  • My DHCP server is pfSense/Kea, and works fine with other APs. The issue only appears with Deco X50-PoE during roaming.

I checked the logs on the Deco units and consistently see the following errors when the problem occurs:

daemon.err nrd[13266]: wlanifLinkEventsCmnHandleIWEvent: unknown flag
daemon.err nrd[13266]: wlanifBSteerEventsMsgRx event type: 3
daemon.notice nrd[13266]: ar_apinfo_collect[line 1138]: AP sync timer expires!

This strongly suggests a bug in the band-steering / roaming process (802.11r/k/v), where DHCP relay or AP synchronization fails.

Could you please confirm:

  1. If this is a known issue with firmware 1.5.0 on Deco X50-PoE?

  2. If a beta firmware or rollback package is available to fix this problem?

  3. If there are recommended settings to avoid this bug until a patch is released?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Etienne

  @EtienneBoss

Hi, welcome to the community.

May I know how many Deco X50-POE units you have?

Can I have a screenshot of the network map on the Deco APP, such as:

Would there be a network switch used for Ethernet Backhaul?

"My DHCP server is pfSense/Kea, and works fine with other APs."- Do other Aps also connect to the same switch like Deco X50-POE units?

In the meantime, I'd like to follow up on your case via email and ask the senior engineer for further assistance.

Please check whether you can receive my email.

Best regards.
