Model: Deco BE85   Deco BE65
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.20 Build 20250724 Rel. 20663

My home network consists of my Internet Service Provider's router and three Decos in Access Point (AP) mode: two Decos BE85 (hardware version 1)  and one Deco BE65 (hardware version 2). The main Deco BE85 is connected directly to the ISP router via cable. The second Deco BE85 is connected to the main Deco via cable, through some network switches, while the Deco BE65 is connected to the main Deco wirelessly. All my home devices, both wired and wireless, connect through the Deco system, with the ISP router providing only Internet access and VOIP telephony.

In the first two months after installation, everything worked smoothly, with very rare Internet connection interruptions unrelated to the Deco system. In the last 36 hours, however, the connection between the main Deco and the router providing the Internet connection has become intermittent, with very frequent connection losses. I have tried restarting both the ISP router and the Deco network several times, but the problem continues to recur, rendering the local network unusable, except for quick tasks that can be performed in a few minutes.

I don't know if the problem could be due to a Deco firmware update (I have the automatic update option enabled and the firmware version is 1.20 Build 20250724 Rel. 20663 on the two Decos BE85 and 1.17 Build 20250324 Rel. 32980 on the Deco BE65). The Deco settings have remained unchanged since everything was working fine. In my initial setup the wireless network (only with the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands) and the IoT network were active, with high-capacity network mode selected and smart DHCP, Fast Roaming, and Beamforming disabled. A little while ago, I tried disabling the 6 GHz band and enabling smart DHCP, but I didn't notice any improvement.

Apart from these random attempts, I have no idea what else I could try to get a stable connection between the ISP router and the Deco system. Any suggestions in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again. I just wanted to let you know that after speaking with my ISP customer care I managed to fix the issue by factory resetting my router.

Everything regarding my Internet connection looked fine on their end but since I was still experiencing the constant connection drops they suggested to reset the router. Since doing that everything is back to normal.

I wish I thought trying that sooner but I was misled by the green lights on the router and by their remote checks not showing any problem with my Internet connection.

Again, I really appreciate your advice which eventually pointed me in the right direction.

There was a new beta firmware released for the BE65 about a month ago I would try to install that first to see if it fixes your issues

@HelpFixDecoApp thanks a lot for the advice. I'll try that too, although I reckon the issue is most likely caused by some problem between the ISP router and my main Deco BE85 directly connected to it.

Yesterday I spent the whole day as well as part of the night trying everything I could think of to try and fix the issue, including temporarily shutting off the two satellites Decos (the BE65 and the second BE85).

I also tried switching my Decos from AP mode to router mode, although the router mode would not be the ideal setup for my local network, but no matter what I do, every 10-20 minutes the Internet connection is lost on my Decos and then resumes after another 10-20 minutes.

I also checked the troubleshooting fixes suggested by TP-link, but none seems to apply to my situation. Indeed there are no issues with my router ISP connection and the cable connecting it to my main Deco is brand new and worked well until very recently. However, today I'll try with a new cable just to rule out that too. Other fixes suggested by TP-link, like using Google's DNS, seem only to apply to the Decos in router mode, which is not my case. Unfortunately there is not much I can do even on my ISP router, because its settings are quite limited.

While writing this message I also noticed my wireless speed dropped from about 1 Gbps to about 2 Mbps both in download and upload. After a couple of minutes I lost the connection again then it was back with a speed of about 150 Mbps, still much slower than usual.

See that sounds like a cable issue I would definitely try replacing the cables

I was hopeful that was the case but apparently it wasn't. Same outcome even using a brand new cable to connect the main Deco to the ISP router unfortunately.

It seems like there's a clock somewhere that shuts downs the Internet connection for the Deco network at regular intervals (20 minutes more or less). If I restart the ISP router the connection on the Deco devices is resumed almost immediately but after about 20 minutes is gone again.

I'm startled by the fact that there was no change on my local network, none that I'm aware of at least, that could explain the sudden change of Decos behaviour.

Any luck with the beta firmware? For the speed issues see if the steps in the links below help

Still looking into the Deco BE65 firmware upgrade. It took me a while to understand how to manually install it, as I thought I could manage the Decos only via app but now I see there is also a web management interface available.

I'm still a bit hesitant because when I downloaded the beta firmware zip file, Tp-Link website warned me about using only firmware files available on the website of my geographical area (Italy/Europe), otherwise there could be some warranty issues. And the beta firmware for the BE65 is not available in my area.

He wont be working for about 10 hours from now but going to ping David one of the tp-link staff members he can let us know if the beta firmware is safe to install for you or not :)

I appreciate that, thanks. At this point 10 more hours are not a great deal to deal with. Better safe than sorry.

I'm now clocking the exact uptimes and downtimes of my Deco connection to check if indeed they are always lasting the same time, but that's the impression so far.

I've also started thinking about performing a factory reset of my Deco network, although I will wait until tomorrow at least before doing that.

It won't help fixing the problem, probably, but out of curiosity I monitored more closely my Decos Internet connection over two hours.

During this timeframe, the connection dropped four times, for an average of about nine minutes, while the uptimes lasted on average about 24 minutes.

To monitor the connection status I played continuously some YouTube videos, which carry on playing for a few minutes after the connection drops, therefore the real uptimes were a bit shorter.

Unfortunately I have still no clue about why this is happening. When the connection is working everything seems normal, although I've randomly noticed some drops in the wireless speed.

  @Simorame

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Have you seen the main Deco turn red during the disconnection?

Apart from the main Deco, do you have any other devices connected to the ISP router? Will they work well when the Deco BE85 drops out?

I don't have other suggestions and would like to follow up on your case via email.

In the meantime, could you please help me check the following details:

  • May I know your internet service provider?
  • How about the model number of the ISP router?
  • Could you please refer to this link to help me save a copy of the web UI log on the main Deco:Deco web interface login

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
